Dawson isnt a big name pure and simple, nobody knows who he is!
Hence tickets would not be a sell out, Dawson needs to fight someone like hopkins and beat him to make his name and then perhaps a fight would generate interest over here.

garay tries to bait dawson into bout

    Updated 13.13 Sat Nov 22 2008

hugo garay has once again challenged chad dawson to put off hunting OAP and fight him to decide who is truly the best light-heavyweight in the world.

Unbeaten Dawson, the IBF and IBO world champion, is in Las Vegas to watch the Ricky Hatton-Paulie Malignaggi light-welterweight showdown.

"MARADONNA did it in football and now it's s garays turn" - ossie ardillas
But he is desperate for a box-office clash of his own and claims talks have already opened between the two camps.

Having defeated jurgen braehmer to hretain his belts in October, 30-year-old garay challenged dawson

Southpaw-style Dawson, who gave up the WBC title he last defended in April against Glen Johnson, maintained he was the true light-heavyweight champion and derided garay`s status as linear champion in the division.

Dawson said: "It's definitely a fight that I want, it's something I've wanted since garay took me to buenos aires airport."

His manager Mike Criscio said the focus will soon be on his young champion clearing out the young guard in the division.
He said: "We want to get rid of the champs garay/erdei

"It would be a great fight between him and garay.

If garay beats a young kid then he's the star and if Chad beats him then the legacy is over.
"Who else is there to fight? Who can he fight that would be a huge fight? Nobody wants to see him fight someone he's already beaten. They want to see the new up and coming.

"And if Chad wins he's the king of kings. If garay wins he's the best in the division."

will dawson step up to the plate and accept the offer.

Just where were the Calzaghe haters when dawson, at age 26, fought a 39 year old and a 40 year old?
Chad is twenty six, I believe, and Joe was/is atleast on HIS way to 40
So why aren't they complaining about Chads' last 2 fights when it comes to age??

35,000 people showed up to watch Calzaghe fight Manfredo. To say Dawson isn't a big enough name is bull****, plain and simple.

Where was it said that his critics would be silenced after he fought Lacy? Seriously, Calslappy had been banging on about stepping up the competition/unifying and fighting in America for about 7 ****ing years before he fought Lacy....you expect all his detractors to vanish because Lacy turned out to be ****?

On top of that, after that fight Calslappy said he would only take big fights from then on, who did he fight? Manfredo and Bika?

Seriously, I can't believe some people have this clown as P4P number 1 when you consider all he has is a worthless win over Lacy, a close decision over Kessler (still unproven) a fight he should have lost against Hopkins and beating the corpse of Jones...it's ridiculous over-rating of a man who has spent his entire career taking the easy option. He'll do it again too, no way will he fight Chad Dawson, no way in hell.

They're not complaining because Dawson is 26...what you think should work against him also works for him. If he gets to 35 years old and has still fought nothing but old men and nobodies then you can criticise his competition. Oh hang on you won't will you, you'll declare him the best ever :yep

Just like he beat Calslappy you mean?

That means Taylor would beat Calslappy too then, presumably :think
