If Dawson is way overrated, then Kessler is monumentally overrated. Any objective fan can see who the better fighter is between the two. Dawson is also certainly better than Froch as well.

i do not know where you are getting your HBO /showtime putting up money for the calzaghe v kessler fight from.
it must be from some article you read perhaps from team dawson ?

i keep telling you the calzaghe v kessler fight was arranged with uk tv money and danish tv money and gate receipts.

hbo or showtime were not in the loop until warren won the right to hold the fight in the uk and then sold the foreign tv rights to HBO .

hbo paid 15%(1.5 million) of the total pot towards the fight , albeit that got them a delay in the start time to suit american audiences.

warren says he lost money on this fight .

It was from an article written by Dan Rafael on ESPN.com. Regardless, Showtime offered to put the fight on Showtime, and Dawson offered as an opponent to Calzaghe. If you don't want to believe it, that's fine.

Dawson's doing everything in his power to get Calzaghe in the ring. Dawson can't be blamed if the fight doesn't happen unless something strange happens.

    You don't even need to take me word for it;

"Showtime made a very aggressive offer so we're confident there will at least be a fight for Joe [in 2007]," said Jay Larkin, the former Showtime boxing chief now serving as Calzaghe promoter Frank Warren's U.S. representative.

    the article in full

Now that HBO's exclusive negotiating window to land a potential super middleweight summit between champions Joe Calzaghe (43-0, 32 KOs) and Mikkel Kessler (39-0, 29 KOs) has expired, rival Showtime is making a move on the fight.

Before Calzaghe jumped to HBO last fall, Calzaghe's American TV home was Showtime, which is interested in bringing the Welsh star back.

Showtime has offered Calzaghe a two-fight contract. If the deal is made, the first bout would come this fall with the Kessler fight coming in the first quarter of 2008. The primary reason Showtime would wait until next year for the Kessler bout is because the fight's price -- organizers want $5 million for it from a U.S. network -- does not fit into the network's remaining 2007 budget.

Showtime would like Calzaghe's interim bout to come against light heavyweight titlist Chad Dawson, who would drop down to 168 pounds. Dawson's promoter Gary Shaw told ESPN.com his side is willing to make the fight. Shaw is also talking to Showtime about Dawson in a light heavyweight defense against former champ Antonio Tarver on Sept. 29.

"Showtime made a very aggressive offer so we're confident there will at least be a fight for Joe [in 2007]," said Jay Larkin, the former Showtime boxing chief now serving as Calzaghe promoter Frank Warren's U.S. representative.

Larkin said although they are talking to Showtime, they also continue talking to HBO about Calzaghe-Kessler for the fall without an interim bout. Larkin said Calzaghe badly wants to fight Kessler and doesn't want to put the fight off until next year.

"Talks are going on amicably and we are waiting for their response," Larkin said of HBO.

HBO would like to make Calzaghe-Kessler in the fall, but the network and promoters are apart on money.

HBO could be waiting to see what happens with heavyweight titlist Wladimir Klitschko in his Saturday fight against Lamon Brewster before committing so much money to Calzaghe-Kessler. The network has Klitschko under contract and if he wins and fights again this year, it will be a drain on the budget. If Klitschko opts not to fight again in the fall, it could free up money to go toward Calzaghe-Kessler.

    reading the article

technically in words calzaghe did because he never backed out of the kessler talks and took a paycut , this avoiding dawson

we know in hindsight that neither showtime or hbo made the calzaghe v kessler fight

it was made with uk/denmark and live gate money.
the fight was made between warren and palle.

we know the pot was approx $10 million.

from my perspective calzaghe is being asked in your scenario to turn down the biggest payday of his career, a chance to unify the whole of 168 v a fighter who was perceived to be his biggest threat at the time to take a paycut and enter into a voluntary defense of his wbo title because showtime cannot come up with enough money for a kessler v calzaghe fight.

we know in hindsight that both were not needed and the finances were put in place independently of american tv, even if warren says he took a small loss on the fight.

They asked for $5 million from either HBO or Showtime for the Kessler fight. Showtime agreed to pay $5 million for the Kessler. However, they wanted the fight to be in early 2008. In addition, they were going to offer him more money to fight Dawson in Nov. of 2007. Calzaghe was not asked to take a pay cut. Regardless, my point was that Calzaghe has already had an offer to fight Dawson(you guys all claim he needs to make an offer to prove he really wants to fight Calzaghe), and that Calzaghe turned down a two fight deal from Showtime to fight Dawson and Kessler. Before, you didn't even believe such an offer was made by Showtime.

The ppv figures against Jones were very poor, and they had to give tickets away for the fight to fill MSG up.

His fight with Kessler is the record lowest showtime viewing figues ever in the history of showtime. Joe is no Oscar.

the article states that showtime did not beleive that calzaghe v kesser was worth 5 million.

they proved there point because hbo won the bid for the fight with 1.5 million

i cannot see in the article how much showtime would pay for calzaghe to fight first dawson and then kessler , it is not stated.

i see it laid out like this from this article.

palle v warren verbal offer after verbal offer HBO pull out saying to rich for them but talks between palle and warren continue.

outside party come in (showtime) and say to warren and palle, firstly we want palle out of the equation for the time being and his fighter to stand aside while we bring our fighter in (dawson) , because your fight is to expensive for us.

palle and warren say bugger off then to showtime and let us get on with our own negotiations and tv companys then

negotiations over a few months later fight is made.

meanwhile showtime arrange for dawson to fight ruiz and mendoza in small hall shows with just a few hundred in attendence for x ammount of dollars.

now i do beleive you reg that showtime made an offer, i said i would take your word , but you did provide proof .

but i disagree with the higher offer to calzaghe for a dawson fight as showtime state that

"organizers want $5 million for it from a U.S. network -- does not fit into the network's remaining 2007 budget."

showtime were skint as far as big boxing shows went

that is not calzaghe`s fault , he brought 9,000 supporters across the atlantic with him.

it was american fight fans that never turned out.

    i know you meant hbo.

if HBO had allowed the fight to take place in the uk instead of usa do you beleive the would have given away free tickets ?

let's see: retire or fight Chad Dawson after you've just beat Jones, you're undefeated and almost 40 yrs. old....i don't think Calzaghe is gonna climb that mountain at this point....
