Chad DAWSON publicly CALLS out Joe CALZaghe

basically my feelings exactly. If anyone can beat joe (and there are not too many) its bad chad. I truly believe bad chad will be p4p#1.

 

According to many on this forum, here's what Dawson should do prior to fighting Calzaghe:

1) Fight Diaconu whom he ducked
2) Fight Cloud who is his mandatory
3) Give Johnson a rematch
4) Give Tarver a rematch (he is contractually obliged to do that and we don't want to hear he was ducking Tarver, do we?)
4) Prove himself against Hopkins
5) Fight Kessler to demonstrate he is worthy of entering the ring with Calzaghe
6) Fight Erdei who is the lineal champ at LHW (because ultimately all these alphabet trinkets mean so little...)

Assuming he manages to win all that, he'll have acquired several alphabet belts and will have been given several new mandatories in the process. So naturally he can't duck his mandatories - he'll need to fight them - add a couple of names to the list (plus possibly a few rematches if the fights are at all close). By the time he's done, it will be time for Dawson to retire...

To many around here, it still won't be clear that he demonstrated that he belongs in one ring with Calzaghe. Why? Well, obviously many names on the list belong to shot fighters (basically anyone whom he beats convincingly has to be shot) or else fighters destroyed by Joe - so these wins don't really count...

The one benefit for Dawson of going down this route is that he could finish his career 'Calzaghe style'... Call out pensioner Joe (who will have retired five years prior to that - so might be in need of cash by then) and demolish him to get the respect of 'true fans' around here... :dead

How about this:
He fights Calzaghe first (when both are still close to their primes) and then tries to stick to the list above? What's wrong with that? Ultimately the fans get an extra good fight. And unless you're very emotionally attached to the zero in Joe's record - and wet yourself at night, worrying he might loose it - this can't be a bad thing, right?.

Some of the responses in this thread are unbelievable. Apparently, it's verboten for anyone at 175 to call out the top P4P fighter in their midst who's coming off two high profile fights in order to attempt to secure another one. :rofl


And at the ******* who wrote that Dawson "ducked" Diaconu by fighting Tarver and is attempting to "duck" Cloud by fighting Calzaghe. This forum reaches new lows daily.

 

Spot on. If alzaghe has 1 more fight, it SHOULD be against Dawson. No other bout makes as much sense. The top 2 LH's going at it. Imo, it'd go down as one of Calzaghe's top 3 wins and most likely his best, should he win of course.

For Dawson, it's his chance to establish himself as a big star and erase any doubts as to how good he is. Plus, as this fight would probably take place in Wales, it'd be a great thing for Dawson's resume. A top American fighter, willing to travel abroad to fight the best.

Sadly, accordingly to some, Dawson belongs to the rare breed of fighters who are both 'too unproven' and 'too dangerous'

 

A fighter who has ducked his mandatory challenger and is planning on ducking his new mandatory challenger too is in no position to call anyone out or act as if he is being ducked, especially when he's just done the ducking and since the fighter he's calling out had been planning to retire after his last fight, having beaten all challengers. End of story.

 

So I suppose that you'll be ignoring this farce of a fight tonight. After all, who can take Malignaggi seriously after he dropped his title to avoid his MANDATORY, Ngoudjo, and who can take Hatton seriously for fighting a guy who refuses to fight his mandatories because we all know that mandatories always represent the toughest, most meaningful fights around.

Decebal, you put too much emphasis on mandatories. Plenty of fighter's throughout history, especially recent history with all the ABC boys, make it into mandatory position. Freeman Barr and Stieglitz were Calzaghe's mandatories!! Did he duck them? Dawson is in a position to call out Calzaghe, although at this stage he should just make the man a good financial offer instead of verbal sparring for a few months. Diaconu, Cloud and co are all young and have plenty of time to share a ring with Dawson. Dawson is simply trying to make the most of his situation. Calzaghe is the fight to go for, right now. Calzaghe has been planning on retiring but if had his heart set on it, he would of done it after the Jones fight and not said that he'd have to think about it. He's waiting for a big money offer.

 

Mate, I'd like to see Calzaghe beat the **** out of Dawson as much as the next guy, but I don't think Dawson deserves a shot at Calzaghe more than some other fighters out there, like you and some others make out. Not least, I'd rather see Calzaghe rematch Hopkins if he decided to have one more fight, instead of fighting an unproven fighter like Dawson, like you and others want. So...I don't give a **** that Dawson's calling out Calzaghe publicly. I don't care about Calzaghe's financial situation either...so I don't care whether he is only talking retirement in order to get a better offer from Froch/Dawson/Hopkins/Kessler/Taylor, etc. Calzaghe will do what he wants and if he fights one more I'll watch it, even if it's against Froch. But I don't want Dawson of all people to get any favours against Calzaghe...if it happens, it happens, but I'm not going to call for it. And if Calzaghe decides to retire after all, good luck to him. He deserves to retire. He's proven it all; there's no one out there for him to prove himself again. That's all.

 

The problem with this fight is that reward of winning is not equal between both guys. Even when Calzaghe wins, which I believe he would, Dawson would be made out to be another hype job afterwards. Calzaghe needs to either sit back and let the division work itself out a bit for a fighter with a true mandate to arise or just retire. Dawson's performance against Johnson was questionable at best. He needs to rematch him and beat him decisively to have a true mandate to fight Joe. Right now, Glencoffe Johnson would be the better opponent.
