I also gave Johnson the 11th but it could have gone to Dawson pretty easy.He clearly won 6 and you could give him 7 but not 8.
Listen, Calzaghe struggled against Ried, and has had some very unimpressive fights against some other boxers as well - he has never steamrolled everyone. It happens in boxing; It doesnt mean a boxer is shite.
Bute did show he was superior in the skills, talent and ability categories. Just as Meldrick Talylor did in there with Chavez.....the big difference is Chavez was also a GREAT FIGHTER who had good skills in boxing. Andrade is a fighter who lacks skills. But to say Bute didn't show he was better by any means is lacking any validity. Bywatching the first 11 rounds you could see the disparity in the skills category. In boxing there are no "WHAT IFs". It either happens or it doesn't. IT was close to being a KO but it never happened. I'll be alright with a rematch and I'd give ANdreade a nice shot at pulling off the upset by a one Punch KO...but logicallly speaking it's unlikey to happen and Bute will more likely be more cautious than the first fight narrowing that window of opportunity that Andreade has to pull off the upset. Anything can happen in this sport but its usually easy to predict if you have a knowlege of the sweet science..
Why should Calzaghe face Dawson? Because Dawson is ranked #2 'contender' in the world by The Ring, ESPN, Fightnews and Boxing News. Surely that's a good enough reason? From a fan's perspective isn't that how boxing ought to work, unless you're Steve Bunce of course.
Do YOU want to see Hopkins v Calzaghe?? Honestly do you want to see Hopkins hold onto Calzaghe for dear life like he did the first fight? 2 Fights I would like to see would be Dawson v Hopkins & Carl Froch v Jermain Taylor Then If Dawson beats Hopkins Calzaghe should fight him and then retire vacate the titles for Dawson v (you pick hopkins, Taylor, Froch, Jones Jr, ) Thats when I would be happy for Calzaghe to fight a Dawson when he has beaten Hopkins and shown he can beat a skillful fighter like him What would be your choice??? Would it be Dawson v Calzaghe straight away
No one could have predicted whether Bute had a big enough heart and was strong enough or not to beat the count. Many intangibles cannot be predicted at all; the only thing you can predict is how styles match up, and whether a big puncher is likely to take out a chinless wonder or not.
Blame warren not calzaghe I have Calzaghe has had far more say over his career in recent years and the calibre of opponent has improved. In the Reid fight he hurt his hands in the opening rounds and was in agiony and just tried to move and jab without throwing hard punches. Reid Ill admit was a struggle but I commend Calzaghe for toughing it out and getting through it like he has on many occasions.
No doubt about it...what I'm talking about is the "TREND" in which Dawson is looking to fight the top names and the elites of his division. Even if Joe and Chad fight it will be considered a silightly tainted win for CHad due to the fact that Joe is 37. But beating Joe now is like beating the very best Joe....he may be a tad bit slower but his skills have improved given the top notch quality opposition he has just recently been facing over the last 2 yrs. What Chad is doing is showing the world and proving to himself that he wants challenges...and he wants to take on these challenges when he's in his prime.... Whether or not you think CHad is a top contender is all subjective and your opinion.....The reality is Chad is a world champion, undefeated and young. He's willing to test himself and calling out the best and by most standards still early on in his young career. These kinds of moves are normally made later in fighters with this kind of talent and abilities careers. Chad is moving quickly and it could be a mistake or it could be the begining of a very special career.
Hopkins and Dawson are the two best LHWs besides Calzaghe. The next guys in line are Johnson and Tarver. I really don't see a meaningful fight at LHW for Calzaghe besides Hopkins or Dawson. Hopkins is too old to be fighting any eliminator fights in order to prove that he is worthy to fight Calzaghe. That's bull**** and he'll never go along with it. So if Joe wants a meaningful fight, it's Hopkins or Dawson. If he doesn't want to fight them, he can go after the next biggest money fight or retire.
Whate ever the case Bute was able to beat the count. Some say it was a long count. IT could have been. From what I saw the fight should have been stopped, but Bute was "GIVEN" the opportunity in a championship fight to continue and lucky for him it was at the end of round 12. Had the fight been 13 or 15 rounds we might be having a different discussion but again....there aren't any "what ifs" in boxing. A rematch would be ideal given the contrversy but Andrade will be the underdog going in to the remtch...I'm sure of it.
I would rather see a dawson v calzaghe fight after dawson has fought hopkins and shown he can mix with a top top fighter.
I quote you: Dawson is a consensus to 3 LHW. His last two wins were against guys who destroyed a younger, better version of the Roy Jones that Calzaghe just beat. So if your saying that Dawson beat the men who beat the man, then by the same Calzaghe beat the man in Sheika who had beaten Johnson Because everyone goes on about the fight that never was in calzaghe v johnson yet calzaghe beat a more dangerous fighter in sheika, and the same logic applies if your saying Dawson beat the fighters who beat jones, suggesting that qualifies dawson to fight calzaghe, yet tarver and johnson were both past it Calzaghe gets accused of fighting either old fighters or inexperienced yet dawson gets accolades for fighting two over the hill fighters and that qualifies him for a shot at calzaghe. And most are saying on here that even then roy jones wasnt the same guy after coming down from heavyweight.
