Chad Dawson : The most overrated boxer around?

I think Dawson is the future of the light heavyweights but apart form a fight with Hopkins (now JC has retired) there is not a lot of big name opposition out there for him that will get him world wide recognition. He mentioned himself that a move down to super middleweight could easily be achieved if that was what he needed to do to get the fights he desired. I like Dawson he is a real talent but like Pavlik before him calling out fighters like Hopkins and Calzaghe is a mistake as neither of them were/are ready for that level of opposition just yet. Joe would have had an easy night with either of them as would Hopkins against Dawson and as he proved against Pavlik. Dawson could rule the light heavy division for a few years and tie up all the belts if he avoids Hopkins for the next year or so. I would prefer him to move to the super middleweight division and take on Froch, Kessler, Taylor, Bute etc myself. I would like to see Pavlik have a fight with Abraham to prove who is the boss at 160 and for both of them to move up to 168 and get in the mix also.

He beat Johnson close but clearly, nearly shutout Adamek, and whooped an older but still decent Tarver. Dawson is the 2nd best LHW in the world now that Joe has retired. I think he is a top 12 p4p fighter too.

I haven't seen a huge amount of "bigging up" of Dawson on here. Most people on here seem to see him as a good prospect, a good boxer - nothing more.

 

I agree. the pound for pound talk at this point is absurd. he just went life and death with glen johnson

Dawson is the man ... very skilled technically, fast, athletic as hell, strong ... he's a complete fighter ... good defensive skills ... good beard ... come on now --

 

No they couldn't if that is the case. They were clearly pulling for Johnson the whole night as was I but he did not win that fight. Sorry hurting a fighter twice with no KD's does not equal a win when you are outboxed for 7 or 8 rounds. Dawson showed great combination punching.

Remember all 3 judges had it for Dawson and they got it right.

 

if dawson is so much better than kessler, why did he turn down the fight at a catchweight when offered but is willing to fight a smaller paul williams at 168?

stylistically kesser would kill him and thats a FACT.

Why laugh? He took flush bombs from G.Johnson and some powerful shots from Tarver and was never downed .
