Chad Dawson : The most overrated boxer around?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by radab, Feb 7, 2009.

  1. Dawson was always the number ONE LHW in the world especially and specifically before Joe retired. There is an obvious reason why BHOP would be happy to fight Joe Calzaghe again and does not show any interest in taking Chad down (because he knows at 44 it just won't happen). Calzaghe does not have elite athleticism/skill and even at 44 BHOP is supremely confident the worst that could happen is a close fight. Against a man of Chad's age, size, and athleticism he could get wrecked if he turns up old on that night. BHOP hasn't been looking at big young LHWs because he is aware of his age and limitations. He is interested in Calzaghe because he has already seen Joe in action. Calzaghe didn't fight any big young LHWs because he would lose. Cal as a young man caught punches with his face against a non-peak Eubank and was hurt and holding as the seconds ran out in the 12th, got dropped by Mitchell and Salem, got dropped by a 43-year antique Hopkins and looked amateurish in his narrow win, and got dropped and hurt again at the end of the sixth by a worn ex-great with no legs who had had his lights turned off previously by an old Tarver and an old Johnson in recent years.

Nearly every boxer has had questionable fights - even great ones such as Ali. I really don't get this, lets hang Dawson as he got taken close by Johnson, attitude. It's usually from Calzaghe fans. Joe himself was taken to the wire by a lesser fighter (than Johnson) in Reid, and some think Joe lost to Hopkins.

Dawson is a decent prospect, imo. I don't understand all the grief he gets.

Hmm saying that Dawson is over rated while pushing Kessler???? That is an interesting stance...When your using resume as the grounds for saying that one is over rated...I mean its pretty hard to use resume to bash Dawson while Kesslers is soo ****ing weak..

  5. Jon, the IBF LHW champ is a decent prospect? C'mon now. Don't jump out on a limb. :D

What is Adamek? A future contender?

And this my friends is why he is overrated.

  7. Well, he already has the same resume as Calzaghe and ten years left to blow it completely away. A lock for the HOF seems quite fair when you look at it that way. Just needs to work in eight or nine years of defenses against cans.

well, he cant be overrated if you got people even making an argument that Kessler would destroy him, when i doubt he'd even go the distance, especially at 175....

i'm not gonna go into the details, cuzz i've done this in the past, but no bull****, Kessler get stopped or put to school if he fought Dawson, stylistically Dawson's his worst nightmare

He beat Adamek who then moved up in weight and beat Steve Cunningham's ass. Yeah, real overrated.

The fact is, the guy is a young, talented, undefeated fighter. It's a fact.

Don't forget that Dawson schooled Adamek, who right now is considered the best Cruiserweight in the world!

Dawson is a very good fighter who doesn't get the recognition he deserves ... this guy came up the hard way and has payed his dues along the way.

He came up and won minor titles at 160, 168, and 175 ... then fought an undefeated Adamek and won the WBC light heavyweight title ... (Adamek is now that recognized Cruiserweight champion) then he fought a veteran in Glenn Johnson for a defense of the WBC in a rugged 12 round fight. Came out successful, fighter the toughest fighter of his entire career. Then he fights IBF champion Tarver who have acheived alot in the LHW division ... he beat him easily ... when Tarvers L's come to future hall of famers Hopkin and Jones and a loss to Erik Harding when he had a broken jaw and a hard fought Battle with Glenn Johnson.

He beat the two former light heavyweight champions in Tarver and Johnson and he has the tools to stay undefeated for a while.

Dawson beat a current lineal champion in cruiserweight Adamek. And almost lost every round. I personally gave Adamek 2 rounds.

Johnson lost vs Dawson. I don't know how all you guys say Glen won and cried robbery imo. That is a great win. I think I had Dawson maybe by 3 or 4 rounds or so.

Tarver was a good win as well. That guy outclasses Woods, and I don't think I gave Woods a round.

Keep in mind Dawson is still a young kid.
