Right! Diaconu isn't much of a boxer at all - he just wants to pop your head off! But this fight can really allow Dawson to shine, because he will have to do something different than what he did against TA. The Bull will keep on charging, taking big risks. Diaconu has NOTHING to lose. As long as he makes a spirited exciting fight, his fans will be happy! Diaconu cannot win on points, so there's no point trying to box. He will go for it big time. I don't think it will go to scorecards...

Just realized this fight is going to be in Diaconu's hometown (if it comes off as boxrec seems to think it will), which will play to the Romanian's advantage.

Dawson signed to face Stipe Drews in Germany and looks to be heading into a dangerous opponent's backyard yet again...that's called acting like a real champ.

Damn right! You've got to respect Chad for that! Adrian will have 10.000 people calling "ADI, ADI, ADI!" all night!:yep It also shows that Interbox are enlightened. They are putting up the money to bring the Champs to THEM, in order to build the brand and make Montreal a home for boxing. This means that Bute and Diaconu fight for peanuts, but to them, it's worth it. They fight the best in front of their home fans! You've got to respect that too!

Interbox have really come up strong lately. Theyve got 2 unbeaten mandatories lined up now, for the WBC 175 and IBF 168 lb belts, both with real chances to win.

Theyre getting the media attention as well now. All Russ Anber talks about these days is Diaconu and Bute. :yep

If he's such a murderous puncher, why couldn't he knock out numerous glass chinned bums in long fights?

People always ask this regarding Diaconu.

The answer is that he never used to pace himself in his first 20 or so fights. Take the Thysse fight for example, Thysse had never been down before and he had been in the ring with Kessler, Brahmer, and Bute. Adrian knocks him down hard in round 1 and nearly finishes him, thysse hangs on and Diaconu wastes all his energy in the first few rounds going for the KO.

Thysse was later quoted as saying "that punch knocked me right into the third round".

Diaconu is a much smarter fighter now.

Alright, I can take the Thysse fight for example. Kessler and Magee stopped him late and Diaconu didnt. Diaconu fought this guy just 2 fights ago. One fight ago, he fought a glass chinned bum named Orlando Rivera who has been stopped by light hitters. He couldn't stop him in 12 rounds. He's a much smarter fighter NOW? Haha, so after he knocked out another glass-chinned boxer, Hoye, in a few rounds you think he's magically a completely different, smarter fighter who paces himself more? Your attempt at hyping up Diaconu failed, figure out a new spin on it.

I don't know that I buy this. Essentially, you're saying that he tried very hard to get the KO against those guys, and for whatever reason, he wasn't able to do it. Even before any fatigue issue sets in (another question), shouldn't his unbridled aggression have been enough to stop lower-tier opponents?

I like Diaconu and think he's a dangerous opponent for Chad, but to me he obviously can be defended against to some extent. If Dawson is able to do the same, with the additional counter and combo abilities he has, this could turn out to be a lopsided fight. I'll defer to others who've seen AD in action more than me, though.

Can't get too excited until it's official. Boxrec consistently is the worst source of news.

Diaconu is the only one to have knocked Thysse to the canvas...

I hope for Adrian, but this will be an awesome fight. Kudos to both for making it happening.

no, but seriously, just because a fighter goes down once in his career doesn't automatically makes him a "glass-chin"...

Calzaghe has already been to the canvas, yet he doesn't have a glass-chin at all...

So why call Hoye glass-chinned just 'cause Diaconu was the first to knock him down?

A guy like Thysse has a rock solid chin, so no, unbridled aggression typically doesn't do the trick. I have not seen all of Diaconu's fights and am in no way defending some of the opponents that went the distance with him. Bear in mind though that for a puncher it is common practice for trainers to ask them to simply "go rounds" with lesser opponents, to work on some things.

Chad can easily make this his fight (and I expect him too), but will have to be wary of Diaconu's bombs for the full twelve rounds. On that note, look at the guys Dawson is fighting this year: Adamek (has one shot-KO power), Ruiz (C class fighter with a good punch), and now Diaconu (unbeaten powerpuncher). Pretty impressive for a guy who some think has a shaky chin.

huki, I am not spinning anything, I've followed Diaconu for a while and this is simply my take on him as a fighter. You don't really need to put in much effort to hype a 24-0 unbeaten former Olympian with a big punch, I'll let his promoter do that. :hi:
