But is Dawson getting over a million dollars for the Tarver fight is the question.

And people accused Dawson of ducking Diaconu!

The one dimensional nobody. Still, he has lost his WBC belt I believe, a unification woulda been nice.

If he participates in the PPV revenue it'll make a million dollar payday for traveling half away around the world to fight a no-name challenger and not a famous title holder look like an insult.

There was something strange about Diaconu proposal. If they really, really wanted the fight to happen they would have been a little more accomodating about the time table of signing the papers. Diaconu may be a very good fighter but he's a relative unknown without a belt.

I think they knew this other fight was in the wings. This fight had to be in some stage of negotiations for at least a couple of weeks for Showtime and all the parties to come to an agreement.

the fact that dawson is being stripped definitely takes the shine off this fight. i know the ibf allow a unification to take precedence over a mandatory, its a pity the wbc dont have the same logic.

Winner will have the rightful claim to 2 belts though.

This match is a great one and makes more sense than a Diaconu clash, imo.

But it is wrong when you pick ONLY the fights which are more convenient for you or give you bigger money. Everybody have one year to defend agianst mandatory challenger ... this is the way it should be. Madatories are the only way the upcoming good fighters can reach the elite level and its natural way of selection whether the older fighters are still in the game.

LHW division is a mess because the guys at the top are either shot (Jones), old (Hopkins, Johnson), inrelevant to division (Hopkins, Calzaghe, Wright, Trinidad) or lazy (Erdei). Division need the young and hard hitting boys to be tested rightfully against beltholders and therefore it is good that Dawson been stripped by not fighting his mandatory for over a year .... but it is good for everybody since he is goint to fight for the other belt and test Tarver.

Glen Johnson is much better than Diaconu, and has fought just as active, if not more, than Diaconu.

This is a big fight, Dawson is surely making more money on this one than he would if fighting Diaconu. The timing is perfect.

It makes perfect sense for Dawson, he opts for the atractive fight, rids himself of both Diaconu and Glen for now, who will have to fight for the WBC belt, and may also get some special situation from the WBC to unify in case he beats Tarver.

I think Dawson made the right choice.

And on the plus side if Johnson does mange to gain the WBC strap one of the 2 (Tarver /Dawson ) will have to fight him again ..

    WAR JOHNSON !
