Anyone remember this Light Heavyweight fire fight from 2008? This was when Dawson was seen one of the top dogs of 175 at the time and here you see 39 years ago old Glen Johnson giving Dawson a very tough test. Savage fight from start to finish with Dawson just barely eking out a win after getting rocked late. This content is protected
Glen Johnson was pure hell for just about everyone he fought. I was ringside when he fought Tavouis Cloud in St Louis. That was a bruising fight that he was very unlucky to lose.
Yes, a wonderful fight. I could see a draw, but Scored it 116-112, I can't see how they got a Dawson win based upon the film. Dawson boxes brilliant in the opening two rounds, fast hand, fluid punching, great accuracy but the second Johnson starts to track him down the fight is flipped on its back and Johnson starts to win close rounds. What is a technical mis-match becomes a fascinating fight based upon Johnson's work-rate and bloody-mindedness. I thought Dawson won the rematch.
I thought Cloud look good for it on tv. Ringside is different though. Thought cloud benefitted from an all but robbery against Campillo though!
Cloud vs Johnson was a bruising fight. Cloud landed the harder shots but Glen seemed to outwork him. It was not a robbery but when they read the scores and all three judges had Cloud winning 116-112, most in attendance were like WTF.
Very good fight I was a big fan of Dawson when I was a little kid I had it 115-113 for Dawson from memory.
I remember Johnson vs Cloud very fondly as well. That was quite a bruiser of a fight indeed where both guys just stayed close to the pocket throwing nonstop leather. Right before the first bell range Cloud gave out a roar as an attempt to intimidate Johnson but didn't do anything at all. Johnson really took it to Cloud and made him work. As Harold Lederman put it "what a goddamn fight this is".
