40somethings were dropping joe, dawson would stop him. hence why joe ran from him in fear.

 

a Dawson with his head screwed on correctly could outpoint Joe in a close fight

but most likely Dawson is unable to deal with Calzaghe's flurries (effective or not) and fights tentative like vs Pascal and loses on points

 

This was a fight that I wished that Joe would have taken after he beat Hopkins. IMO Calzaghe had atleast two good fights left in him. Dawson was at his peak back then and Dawson's size and skills would have presented some interesting problems. A pick em fight back then with a slight lean towards Calzaghe.

 

Nah, he looked in decline and his hands were shot. He retired at the right time, same cannot be said about 90% of the fighters.

 

He retired after the RJJ fight which IMO was a waste of time other than a nice payday. He should have fought Dawson instead, it would have been a better legacy fight for Calzaghe.

Maybe but it's high risk, I don't think he would have won that personally at that point in time, he was smart to fight RJJ and preserve his 0 as well as getting a good payday.
