................and he deserves the big paydays to go with his skills. :good

I agree about Dawson, he's good but who has he beaten to prove it so far? He needs a few more to be worthy of being one of Joe's last 2 or so opponents IMO.

Markbrooklyn is right. Hopkins-Calzaghe is pointless and Dawson is the man at LHW. It doesn't matter that his resume isn't great, just simply watching him fight you can tell he's the best at 175 and creates the biggest problems for Calzaghe. I really hope that Calzaghe-Dawson will happen and I would be pissed off if Hopkins accepted the challenge, because it would be a completely meaningless fight. He's way too old to beat any elite fighter right now and he needs to move up to HW and fight Ibragimov, beat Jones just for the hell of it, or retire. The sad part is, Calzaghe would get a lot more respect in the boxing world and especially in America for dominating Hopkins than beating Dawson in a very close fight.

Dawson-Calzaghe is one of the most important fights that can be made in boxing today. It is a real 50/50 matchup and a win for any of them would be huge. I favored Dawson before slightly but after seeing the Kessler fight yesterday and having a higher opinion of Calzaghe as an outside fighter, I really don't know. Maybe Dawson needs a unification fight at LHW or a dominating win over Tarver to create more interest in the Calzaghe fight.. but Joe is getting older and if this fight happens, it must happen in 2008.

Joe should fight hopkins for the name and the money and in that time dawson can fight tarver or woods to make a fight with calzaghe worthwhile. I think dawson vs woods would be best as he is another champion and this would add to a future calzaghe vs dawson fight.

Chad Dawson is exactly the kind of fight Calzaghe doesn't want.

Dawson has a difficult style and can make anyone look bad.

It's not unreasonable to think that Dawson could beat Calzaghe at 175.

There are some on here who think Dawson would slaughter JC.....then again, they said that he'd lose to Kessler. Dumbasses.

No f*cking way. Chad Dawson will beat JC, and do it by more then a couple rounds IMO. Chad is simply the better techincal fighter, with more size, more power and more speed. Chad can do things in the ring that most fighters would never have encountered. He throws combinations with speed and from unorthadox angles which makes it very hard to defend against.

Dawson and Woods (Woods as a first test at LH if he cant get Dawson) are the only fights at 175 i want to see.
Hopkins would be too old,he'd headbutt Joe at some point to wind him up and drag him into an ugly brawl, it would be a win for JC but I doubt he'd get any credit for it. Here's hoping Hopkins prices himself out of it again.

Actually the majority would probably (as I did) have picked JC over Kessler. But this is a different match up entirely. Beating a very good yet one dimensional European style boxer, is very different to beating a fast and unorthadox southpaw, who utilises angles and a lot of head and upperbody movement.

    Nope

Dawson is southpaw. Calzaghe is southpaw...Calzaghe won't be doing any of that head first charging thing, because a Calzaghe Dawson fight would be physically closer and they would be right in each others faces...Dawson would get raped. The only reason he did it with Kessler is because Kessler is fundamentally sound, he doesn't budge from his stance and since there was a distance situation calzaghe had to figure out a way to get inside and thats why he was doing this. Calzaghe should call out Pavlik then head up to 175 and get his belts there.

This is a silly post. Basing your opinion on resume is very short sighted. YOU should be looking at how the fighters have performed against their best opponents, and how their styles would match up in the ring. Not just saying that because JC is the bigger name he shall clearly win.
