I think for the purists he's a dream fighter, he's great technically. Floyd Mayweather Jr has said he's the best fighter around (after himself of course). If only he could make supermiddleweight

I wouldn't say that was fair as plenty of black fighters are popular in the States and in the UK. Just look at PBF's PPV figures recently.

Chad's been talking about 168 for a little while now (as well as HW when he did an interview with Smiddy a while back), but I think 168 makes complete sense if and when he beats Pascal. Plenty of the Super 6 losers will be free later this year and the division is also red-hot. I think moving to 168 will be the making of Chad Dawson.

yea floyd is about the only black fighter that can do 1 million plus and for years everyone denies him of having a draw. He have to play the villian to sell tickets. I am just telling it like it is. Race is a big part of popularity. Just look at the fact. It is safe to say that all flipinos are going to root for manny. Most brits are going to root for Hatton and Joe and boo his opponents. coinidence? I think not.

It is a coinidence that bhop, bradley, winky, alexander, mosley, chad, dirrell, ward, paul williams, all can't sell out arenas while the euros can sell 50,000 fighting a tomatoe can? while witter can't sell out arenas, now tell me race is not a factor.

Haye, Eubank, Benn, Conteh, Bruno, Lewis, Naz, Khan, et al have all sold out arenas and, in some cases, stadiums as well. All have been extremely popular on TV as well.

To add to that, there is also a huge sporting culture in the UK and that's why so many fans watch sports over here and have travelled abroad to watch fights as well; ignore Hatton's 30,000, that's nothing compared to the kind of numbers of Brits that go to Champion's League and international (football/soccer) games, rugby and cricket games abroad.

I can't speak for America, but maybe racism isn't as prevalent here as you claim it is over there. Who knows, it just interests me that Dawson hasn't got many fans.

First and foremost - great avi of the late Randy Rhoads! I also like Chad - but the division has ZERO exciting matchups, and Chad's style does not transcend the division.

    A combination of several things.

    1. His in ring style is often boring, and when he's had fights with washed up old veterans he's been happy to win dull decisions rather than blast them out which would make him much more appealing.

    2. He doesn't have a really big mouth or personality, personally I like fighters who have a bit of dignity and don't brawl at weigh ins or talk about drinking the other guys' wifes' breast milk but unfortunately that sells tickets these days.

    3. He's not from a city or ethnic group that draws well. Now that boxing is a niche sport fighters don't appeal to the general public, if your ethnic group isn't following you you'll have trouble drawings fans. Mexican fighters do well because US living Mexicans seem mad for boxing. I can't remember a black fighter drawing large, mostly black crowds in my lifetime, the way Cotto does with Puerto Ricans or Paquiao does with Phillipionos. Secondly he's from New Haven, Conneticut, not say, New York where with a huge population you'd have any easier time finding boxing fans amongst them.

    4. Light heavyweight is a dull division, and like most of the big men divisions there's not many US guys in it these days for him to have a rivalry with and spark interest.

have you already forgot how he duck'ed that guy from romania I believe I forgot his name cause dawson ducked him so long??

no strange that nobody wants to stay at this division when so called 'the champion' is cherry picking his opponents

He should fight Hopkins after Pascal and then a bout with Tavoris Cloud and then a catch weight fight with Lucian Bute. That progression would make him a star.

I was talking about Diaconu, now I know doesnt so obvious due to Diaconu two losses but before that he was undefeted and Dawson ducked for almost 2years

I wouldnt be schocked if actually Dawson decided to fight him now :yep

I'm a fan of Chad myself but his lack of "personality" and lack of excitement in the ring may turn fans away from him. To boxing purists like me who love the "sweet science" and can watch technical fights all day long, I have no problem with him.(Or Cory Spinks)

I'm not saying that the viewer are racist but they tend to root for people they have in common. All my asian friends root for pac and bash his rivals just bc is pac's rival.

I agree with most of the above posters. He is in the Winky Wright category.

-Boring style. A knockout artist/heavy puncher we want to see. A guy who tries to pound out decisions we dont. (Bernard Hopkins)
-Risk taker. We want to watch guys who at least go for knockouts. We want to see finishes in fights.
-Trash talker. If you are gonna pound decisions, talk enough **** so we can cheer your opponent to knock you out, even if he doesnt have a chance. (Floyd Mayweather)
-Money demands. Gotta know your market. Can't be out the game for a while and still demand alot of money for fights. Gotta keep yourself in the public eye. Career is only so long. (Winky Wright)
-Division is also weak, so no big challengers for his titles.
You have all 5 of these, which he does, and you will be on the shelf for a while. Outstanding fighter, but too many obstacles right now.

You mean the same Diaconu who was schooled by Pascal? Dawson would have tooled his limited ass and probably stopped him. It's not Dawson's fault that the shark pulled out of the fight with a hand problem.

The real shame is arguably the most skilled fighter outside of PBF has no fans and no interest in him on ESB. There's somthing wrong with that picture when unskilled bums get more props than a elite technician like Dawson.:-(
