I am a big fan of Bad Chad and I've been thinking about his lack of fanbase recently. The dude has shedloads of skill, is a two-time titlist, has the best record and is the best active fighter in his weight class, and also comes across as a genuinely nice guy in every interview I have ever seen him in; whether it be for HBO or some fan off of youtube with a camera.

On the flipside of that, I accept criticism that comes his way as well. He takes his foot off of the gas when he should be bossing rounds, his style isn't mass-fan-friendly and he can come across as 'boring' and overtly cautious to those who don't like watching pensive well-schooled fighters, and he is stuck in a pretty crap division full of geriatrics he has either beat, or who don't want to face him for a whole host of reasons (B-Hop); Pascal and Cloud have breathed some life into the division in the last year, though. As mentioned, he comes across as a nice dude as well and, as he is so passive for a fighter, does this also stack-up against him? He isn't the sort of person who fans either love or hate and talk about because of his mouth, and he is too respectful to call someone out or talk his way into a fight.

As a result of all of this, he doesn't have many fans and I think it's a crying shame as his talent deserves it. Any other reasons? What can he do to get more fans?

I think its basically because he likes to take periods off, he never at any point ups his pace to try and get a guy out of there. That isn't going to go down with fans in this day and age.

It also hasn't helped him that he's had to fight old men that aren't that interesting, particularly Tarver twice. I think he's the type that needs the other guy to make the fight and they havn't neccessarily been able to do that.

He says he want the winner of the super 6. If he can make 168, go down and beat Bute instead of fighting nobodies at Light Heavy. Until recently Bute had no elite fighters available and was dying to fight a top quality operator why hasn't he done it by now if that is the case?

A scalp of Bute would be massive for him getting him name out there.

Yeah, he's been talking about 168 for a while now. Loads of good fights for him there and I think Dawson-Bute later this year makes sense and is a tasty fight. 168 also makes sense soon as the first-stage losers of the Super Six will also become available. I don't really like the idea of a fight with Cloud just yet, but I wouldn't be against it if it happened. Amazingly, he even mentioned a move to HW a while back as well:

yeh 168lbs is where its going to be at for him unless when Ward comes out of the Super 6 he wants to go to Light Heavyweight.

His last two fights were rematches agaisnt guys he already beat. He falls under the Floyd Mayweather category back in the day where he is to good and his fights fail to excite.

You say he comes across as a nice guy...................who gives a ****. He needs to start calling people like Hopkins out. Needs to be more "Bad" Chad.

If he gets past Pascal which is not an easy task, he should maybe fight someone like Sakio Bika at 170lbs catch weight.

From there the proposed Bute vs Pavlik winner, and then he is ready for the winner of the Super 6.

If you read the entire post you'd realise that I said being a nice dude works against him. He was contractually tied to a Tarver rematch and the Johnson fight was needed, in a sense, due to the outcome of the first fight being so disputed. As I said, he's stuck in a **** division full of old men. Moving down is his best option. As you say, if he starts calling people out maybe people will start to talk about him more.

He's just a tedious man when he's interviewed. Polite, but pointless. He's got good skills, but it's just hard to enjoy one of his fights when it's on live. He's a good repeat viewer for me - I like watching his footwork and positioning, plus he throws good combinations.

But he doesn't make for exciting fights, except for his wobbles against Adamek and Johnson. The first Johnson fight was good cause Glen came on so strong in the last four, but he just doesn't fight with any real urgency.

He needs some good young opponents to have big fights with. He's done pretty well so far cleaning out whats left of the LHW division I think, and I think Pascal is the start of a better run of fights.

He doesn't have the superstar personality alright, but not everybody can have that.
