at what he does he's f*cking good. :bbb he likes to keep it long and work those punches. he's got a good workrate to. but when u get close he has had problems. decked a couple of times already. u have to wonder how he'd cope quick and tough guys like calzaghe and hopkins.
based on the fact that u just said he was decked a few times the logical "bad opponent" for chad would be a big puncher.... i honestly do not think either jc or bhop has enough power to hurt chad and chad really has some serious boxing skills...seen them in fights and seen them in the gym. only way u guys will find out is when he gets the big fights and it seems tarver already ducked him and i really can't wait until he fights diaconu just so all this **** gets done with
But who can get close? He has tremendous legs and a consistent jab to keep opponents at bay. A lot of people thought Adamek would walk through him, but instead he spent the whole night getting outboxed and at times outpunched. Power is the way to beat Dawson, and neither Hopkins nor Calzaghe hits hard enough to stop him. Now, Calzaghe does have the workrate and speed to compete, but I still think Chad would nick a decision off Joe. Would be a great fight.
the kid can fight. :bbb but until he meets the very cream of the crop those doubts will still linger for me. :yep
adamek was solid but nothing more than that. those last couple of rds were worrying for dawson if your talking about fighting guys like calzaghe and hops. both guys have the speed to get close and both are more than respectable punchers. dawson always keep it long and he's good at it. calzaghe wouldn't let him just do that all night though and how would he respond. :huh he still has boxes to tick for me to pick him to beat a calzaghe or hopkins. :yep
Chad Dawson is a good young fighter. I dont think he is ready for someone like Hopkins or Calzaghe but he will be in about a year. BTW, the only people I know with the name Chad are surfer types from California. Its a weird named for a black guy.
I agree... after he beats diaconu and fights another top 10, say johnson or woods, then he will prove to be the elite fighter he could be
I agree, lol. But his name is bad-ass in a way. "Bad" Chad. Heh. Anyways, he should fight Diaconu and or some other top ranked WBC contender (Tomas Ulrich?, or maybe even Dawid Kostecki, tho I don't know if hes ready.) Hope Diaconu v Dawson happens soon. Then he should go after the Calzaghe's and Hopkin's of boxing.
I can understand that you think Calzaghe would beat him, but Hopkins? Bernard would have to fight at his dirtiest just to take 3 rounds out of 12. Dawson is way too fast and active for him now. Neither Hopkins nor Calzaghe (probably) has any power to speak of at 175. Neither could punch with Adamek. Or Dawson, for that matter. I agree Calzaghe's pressure would test young Chad, but Joe also would be countered harder and more cleanly than at any point in his career. Dawson is no stationary target moving only forward and backward. He has a terrific slide step and counters off it beautifully. And his right hand hooks to the body and head, plus the uppercut, and given a 3.5-inch reach advantage, give him a very real shot to knock of Calzaghe.
Chad Dawson is a good in fighter though. He has great body shots and uppercuts, I don't know what people are talking about?
Well, Chad does prefer to see what's in front of him, more than say someone like Roy Jones. But he certainly can fight on the inside, as that uppercut and and fast right hook to the body indicate. People are seeing big name versus small name and assuming Calzaghe would win, but that ain't the case. I also think some posters have seen only the Adamek fight. Dawson was more defensive in that bout than usual, yet he still managed to rock Adamek on several occasions. His respect for Adamek's right hand caused him to back off a little (and when he got careless, he got dropped), but Calzaghe doesn't possess that kind of power. Joe's swarming would be met by stinging counters that he wouldn't see coming. He caught some flush shots from the basic (albeit very good) Kessler, and he squared up a lot as he rushed forward. Those misakes would cost him against a quick, powerful, accurate, slick southpaw like Dawson.
