I have him at #4 right now. I think when Mayweather, Pacquiao and Mosley are no longer at the top. He has as good of a chance as anyone to be #1. My current top Pound for Pound 1. Floyd Mayweather Jr. 2. Manny Pacquiao 3. Shane Mosley 4. Chad Dawson 5. Wald Klitchko 6. Lucian Bute 7. Juan Manuel Marquez 8. Sergio Martinez 9. Paul Williams 10. Vatali Klitchko. The Mayweather/Mosley fight is going to efect these rankings. The winner will either remane or become #1. The loser will probbly drop one or two spots. This would put Dawson at #3.
I'm a big fan, but I don't think Dawson has done enough yet to be PfP No. 3. To move into that category, he needs to defeat Pascal and Bute. Given the ages of the guys in front of them, Dawson/Bute could be for a very high spot in the rankings. Meanwhile, the Super 6 is going to produce two PfP candidates as well, the winner and runner-up. Down the road, we could have a most excellent series of fights for PfP supremacy among prime fighters. Awesome. First, though, Chad needs to keep winning and to become more active. I understand he's been hurt by his opponents' injuries, but there's no reason for a guy his age and who needs to build his profile to fight so infrequently.
I like Chad but he hasnt done anything to warrent a top 5 P4P spot. His best win is his near shutout over Adamek. Why does Dawson get more praise than Adamek on pound for pound lists? Adamek has clearly done WAY more with his career and time during their fight than Chad has. After beating Adamek, Dawson went on to beat 2 journymen(Ruiz and Mendoza) and than he fought Johnson, Tarver twice and Johnson again. As if he hasn't beaten them already convincingly the first time, a pointless rematch was in place. While Dawson has been fighting old men trying to gain a reputation in a poor division, Adamek has beaten top contenders and former champions in 2 weight classes, during this same time period: Bell, Cunningham, Banks, Golota, and Estrada. And now he's fighting Chris Arreola. If thats not a P4P fighter, than I don't know what is.
I rank Dawson and adamek near the middle of my top ten. I get the privilage to see adamek work in my hometown. I've seen what he's capable of. And the fact that Dawson took his 0 let's me know the calibre of dawsons skill set. Dawson had to retire a couple of old heads because they where the ones with the big tv deals. Sometimes a young fighter has to force the spotlight off of the past and on the present.
I like Dawson a lot and hes . Who cares about the P4P ranking, hes making his way up the ranks correctly. He shows a lot of potential to be the next great fighter.
Why do euro fans hate on American fighters? These guys travel all fifty states and whoop ass to reach the top. It's your champions who secure these vacant straps and fight there whole career in one tiny country. Nobody even knows how good these guys are because they only fight their reletives. And the ones who venture to America or even Britain and excel are given much respect. I love adamek. I see him bang everytime he fights in Newark. And I do rate him top ten pound for pound but Dawson has a win over him so how can he be ranked higher?
To my knowledge, not yet. But, they are both Golden Boy fighters, Im sure it won't be a problem. Schafer verbally confirmed it.
Overrated. Not "boxing board overrated", but by definition. Take Sergio Martinez, IMO he did more, especially recently than Dawson, and you hardly even see him being talked about P4P top10. Unfortunately HBO and some influenced experts (The Ring) badly oversell some fighters, and there's little love for those who could have a legit case against them (Martinez, Wlad, John, Hasegawa) but don't get the same love. Dawson still should be in at the top10, but this P4P top 3 talk is nonsense.
The same reason why is Darchinyan has been ranked higher on P4P lists than Doniare for countless numbers of weeks. Its not what you know, its what you can proove. and Adamek has prooven more after his LOSS than Dawson has proove after his WIN. this is a undesputable fact.
Dawson seems a good fighter but im not yet completely sold. He has a good win over Adamek who it would appear now was possibly weight drained considering how hes gone up to CW & HW, besides the knockdown it was a good win all the same when Adamek was undefeated. But his 1st fight with Johnson he looked like he could have been KOd and admitted himself that some people thought he lost that fight, and Johnson has many losses. He did make good at 2nd time of asking. With his fights with Tarver, Tarver was a fighter that had also lost on around 4 occassions, one of those losses to G Johnson and badly to Hopkins. If Dawson scores a good win over Pascal, it would look good on him facing another young fighter with a world title. I would definately be more convinced if he gets the win (not that hed care what an armchair fan like myself thinks).
The OP/TS is British, actually. Also, I am by no means a fan of Dawson, but it's impossible to deny his skills. P4P top 10 minimum. On my personal list, he's #8, but I wouldn't have a problem with moving him higher.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people making sweeping genralizations based on nationality. I'm interested in boxing and boxers, not their passports.
