This Dawson/Diaconu thing has been one of this board's bigger fiascos of 2008. Dawson is taking the bigger fight in Tarver, something he -- and Showtime -- wanted for over a year.

This is a huge opportunity for Chad, and he'd have been a fool to pass it up. Now, if he gets by Tarver and Diaconu ultimately bests Johnson, there would be much more interest in Dawson/Diaconu for a unified title.

Against Tarver, Chad needs to mind his defense and not try to impress with his chin. Tarver won't throw enough punches to win a decision, so his only bet is KO. My biggest fear at this point is that Tarver won't make weight.

Dawson is basically saying he will get hit. Flush and he'll take it?

He should be saying Tarver wont even catch him, not "iMA show yall I can take a punch "..

Tarver hits em FLUSH, its lights out!

"Got any excuses tonight Roy! "

Dawson has a Glass Jaw. Floyd Mayweather Sr said he was laid out several times in sparring.

So many irrelevant comments in this thread...what a waste of time!!:patsch

Back to the thread...what is this thing about Tarver not making weight? What weight did he weigh in at with 30 days to go, does anyone know? Someone quoted Dawson as saying Tarver weighed in at 200 lbs!! If that is the case, Tarver will kill himself just making weight and a win over the old man will mean even less.

On the other hand, what would Tarver aim to prove preparing so badly, killing himself just to make weight and hoping for a lucky KO when chances are he loses badly? :huh

I cannot see why Tarver would take this fight, say it was his last hurrah and a performance he hopes to be remembered by and then weigh in at 200 lbs with a month to go, facing Dawson who could cruise to an easy decision any day of the week against a fighter not in tip top shape...? What is Tarver playing at here? :(

It cannot just be that he is after the money, can it? The money isn't that good in this fight anyway...Surely he has to have some hope of victory...but he doesn't seem to want to give himself much of a chance...:-(

    :huh

It also seems very few people give him much of a chance even if he were fully prepared...so why did he take it? Does he really not have any other options out there? Is he desperate? Why not retire if you're not going to give your all in this fight, the way Hopkins did against Calzaghe, for example...I just don't get it!

Dawson is not the sharpest tool in the box and he fights very much with his heart on his sleeve. He will aim to fight bravely, even if it's not in his advantage - which is good for us fans - it makes things interesting. Does Tarver have the legs and power to KD Dawson?

That was not the 30 day weigh-in,that didn't take place cuz only the WBC has it I think. The fight is in 28 days and Dawson weigh0in for the press cuz he had lunch with them.Tarver weighin 200 lbs was Dawson just talking bull**** like always,he just said it,it's not a fact.I can say that Tarver is 187,does that mean that he really is 187?

    Exactly. :good

Tarver is the bigger fight, and 2 of Dawson's demons of the past are fighting each other (Diaconu who he "ducked", and Johnson who lost a clsoe one to him).

The winner of that fight will be worthy of a fight with Dawson, should Chad get by Tarver.
