That's a valid point. A long lay-off could definitely affect Sonnen's performance.

I still want to view some of Stann's earlier bouts to see how well he does against wrestlers, that is if he has faced any fighters with notable wrestling backgrounds.

 

Phil Davis beat him, but I think the size difference was a factor in that fight.

 

Very intriguing matchup. I'm going to go with Stann. Sonnen has seen his best days, and I agree the layoff is going to play a factor.

Theres so much good tension going one between Chael and the Blackhouse camp that it's almost ridiculous to match him up against the all american soldier Brian Stann.

That said, I think this will be a good fight.

 

i hope brian stann will win but knowing chael's wrestling thats not going to happen, i see chael winning by UD takedowns and gnp.

 

All American vs. All American doesn't work anyway. There is no beef between these two men (yet, fingers crossed Sonnen makes something of it, because Stann surely won't) and Sonnen's best asset is his trash talking and his promotion. With this fight you eliminate it gets no hype except off the back of all Sonnen's previously talked despite it not being relevant. I'm not saying the match isn't interesting, it's a great fight style wise but could turn out to be a Sonnen borefest, ruined more by the fact that he doesn't get to run his mouth and back it up to give it an edge in excitement. Stann has relentless knockout power and could shock the world, but promotion wise this isn't going to be what it could be with Machida or any other guy he's talked **** about.

But who knows, I could be wrong. Sonnen might prove me wrong and fire up the insults on Stann, I really don't think he has a leg to stand on, though.

Very good point. Sonnen's a douche bag but he can get the td's like nobody's business. I haven't seen Stann since he was splitting fights in slugfests with Steve Cantwell in the wec a couple of years back but i doubt he has evolved to the point where he's gonna be able to whip out a submission, so stann's really gonna have to take advantage of whatever time on their feet he can get

Awesome. Much better than him talking himself into a fight with a top 5 205 pounder in Machida.

Stanns punch power is for real. I think I may have underestimated it but the Leben and Santiago fights show he can punch.

Too anyone that would say WAR Scumbag...I mean Sonnen is crazy. This guy is nothing but a Scumbag. The only reason he still has a job is because of the stupid smack he talks and the fans that think he is funny. If he didn't talk like a dolt he wouldn't have a job right now. If you back Sonnen then it's true. A sucker is born everyday. I am going to back my brother Marine Stann..and hope he end Sonnen once and for all.
