Ibragimov was supposed to be the biggest test for Wladimir, he was an undefeated southpaw with a strong amateur pedigree, 6'1" tall and he weighed in at 220 (10lbs less than Chagaev). He wasn't a particular hard puncher even though he could get his opponent's respect. He could box, move, good ring generalship, had pretty fast hands and a tough attitude.

    We all know what happened.

Chagaev is tought to be a step above Ibragimov but I smell a stinker.

    What do you think?

i agree with the post, i see a onesided UD win for Wlad, but ruslan will do himself some good in the long run.

The possibility is valid, but i think Chagaev will be much more agressive than Ibragimov. Chagaev knows, that he needs a KO and the Ibragimov fight showed him that standing passive on the ropes is the wrong idea.

I see it being similar with Ruslan having slightly more success, either way a lopsided decision for Wlad, maybe a late stoppage.

Nah, Chagaev is better. It might be a good fight, I'm actually mildly excited about it.

It depends what state Chagaev is in.

The Chagaev of the first Valuev fight would be an interesting proposition, but he's had so many serious health problems since then that its hard to tell what kind of resistance he would put up in this fight.

I would still say he will make more a spectacle of it than Ibragimov........in fact I don't think you could ever have another fight "that" bad again.

styles make fights. Chagaev is gonna be a swarmer in this fight. Ibragimov was in a style that mirrored wlad's. made to be a boring night. this fight wont.

Totally depends on Klitschko, if he'll play it safe again, it's gonna be boring.

  9. It depends if Wlad is happy to slap Chagaev's gloves like he did against Sultan

Bet your house in a boring ass fest. Chagaev fought Valuev the same exact way Iggy did against Wlad - punching in spurts, stepping back and letting the clock run out... Wladimir fights the same way all the time, pretty str8 up, doesn't move his body and tries to double, triple that left jab to score, soften his opponent up and set up a right hand once in a while...

Chagaev will be more competitive as I think he's a better fighter than Iggy was, but the fight as a whole will still be a huge bore as both are cautious with their punch output and throw nothing but jabs and straight crosses for the most part. Looks like another Wladdy stinker to me.

I said this after the Rahman fight.. if Wlad isn't fighting someone who can really push him and make a fight out of it like Arreola or Haye then I'm not interested in watching his next fight, and I'm sticking to my guns. I'll just wait for you guys the day after to tell me that Wlad won and how much the fight bored you all to tears. Same ol' **** as usual.

nah, as far as i'm concerned ruslan is a much ballsier fighter than sultan. he'll lose but he'll go down swinging more than iggy did.

Chagaev is much, much better than Iggy. Chagaev is a very tricky southpaw who actually fights the way one should fight.

IMO he's the best southpaw HW since Moorer and he is both Klitschko's biggest test.

Chagaev isn't a swarmer at all though. If anything he's a cagey, low-output counterpuncher.

Ibragimov was a much better 'swarmer' than Chag is; hit harder, according to most sources a little taller and longer, was faster of foot and hand, wasn't infested with STD's etc. His destruction of the massive Lance Whittaker was more impressive than any 'swarm' type fight Chagaev has fought. Ibragimov was a very attacking fighter up until about the time he fought Ray Austin through to the stinker vs Klitschko. He also had the experience of fighting in the States with neutral judges.

Anyway, Sultan was much better equipped to fight a swarming type fight, and didn't/couldn't. Notwithstanding the possibility he just got it completely wrong tactically (which seems unlikely - he DID try to attack now and then and was ineffective), Chagaev has very little chance to do what Sultan couldn't. No matter what the odds are, I think betting on Klitschko will be buying money. Well, it would be if it wasn't for his notoriously shakey chin.
