No KO? Well, Skelton is known to be a durable and solid-chinned guy, plus Chagaev did not really seem to push it 100%. So...no KO.
I'll give Chagaev the benefit of the doubt here, as long as he takes a top ten guy next time out. Tony Thompson?
skelton is a big strong man and was able to absorb the flush bombs. he did get clocked with some big shots though but is strong enough to walk through them and then tie up for 30 secs. another round and IMO skelton would have gone down.
he's a one-trick pony. no right hand and not active enough. he let skelton spoil most of his offense by smothering him. ruslan is the type of fighter that does just enough to win.
Missed that. I am willing to Chagaev a pass on a relatively mediocre performance. He was coming off a pretty serious illness, his biggest win, and a decent amount of inactivity. He still controlled the fight and won comfortably, but he should start trying to capitalize more on opportunities and become a little less reliant on the big left. Skelton isn't great, but he has a solid kick-boxing background, has never been stopped, and has some decent wins. He is a big guy, and this was far from the easiest fight Ruslan could have taken for his first one back. I find it funny people getting on Ruslan's case for totally outclassing Skelton but that some of these same people are willing to overlook Peter's poor effort against McCline.
i doubt that. this is the way he has fought in his last 3. he lets others dictate the tempo and adjusts. he just isn't an active fighter. countersw with his left and occasionally thows inside combos. so far it has been enough. but he is not a tv fighter
the ref was the key to the fight. although he penalised skelton a point he was ok in there and let skelton fight his fight which suited skelton and not chagaev.
