I think chagaev would make a great first title shot for david haye :good because if he fought like he did against skelton haye beats him.

he wont vacate, so its up to the WBA to either strip him or hold a title fight for the interim title.

altho it was a joke that lyakhovich (sorry 4 the spelling) was ranked no.2 or something and had a box off for the title shot with valuev, after losing the WBO ages ago and not fighting since.

That was not a UD, but MD, and Chagaev is Germany based - he lives in Hamburg, unlike Valuev who lives in St. Petersburg.

On my card his fight with Valuev was a draw.

An injured football player sure would not retire, but he definitely will not be holding a championship.

Sucks to Chagaev, but he should vacate the belt.

He's not a bad fighter in my book. However, he always seems to get injured. They should strip him of the wba title and let Valuev fight Haye or another top ten heavy for the belt. This guy is pissn me off. Then the winner should fight the heavyweight champion of the world Wladimir Klitschko!

Even though this analogy is dumb, I'll give it a go:

If every season said football player gets injured then yeah, he should retire. It's one thing to miss a game with a sprained ankle, it's another to miss six to ten weeks with a ****ing broken leg every season.

I can also tell you that if every season the dude was hurt for six to ten weeks, He wouldn't be starting. Chagaev is the WORLD Champion...and he's remained world champ despite postponing or cancelling fights at a damn near insane rate.

This doesn't take into account the talk of him being BLIND in one eye as well.

Agreed, it's no wonder why noone I know can name even one top 10 Heavyweight, most of my friends still think Lewis or Holyfields still champ.:rofl :-(

My generation of Heavyweights is terrible, there's only a couple fighters I even like to watch fight anymore, aside from Peter, Wlad, and Valuev, the division is full of mid to late 30 somethings, trying to win a title now because in the 90's when they were in there respective primes it was too hard to beat the champ, now it's much easier.

Anyone that has wins over Valuev, Virchis, and Ruiz and is undefeated doesn't suck. He isn't an all time great but still a top 3 fighter int he world.

    Strip him.

This guy sucks for the sport, we need guys fighting. He's either hurt or sick all the time. Forget about him.

Just cause a man snaps his achilles tenden doesn't mean he sucks as a fighter. He's just a snake-bit mofo. I feel bad for the guy. Injuries suck.

But since it happened, stick GOLOTA in there in his place & make it a WBA Title fight.

    :deal

I remember watching Chagaev fight on showtime years ago... He wasn't anything special then, and he is anything special now... The commentators never said anything like 'this guy is gonna be good in a few years' or 'he has what it takes'....... he is very mediocre

here we go again with this friggin guy. lets review his low-lites since becoming a paper champ:

-1 fight in 15 months vs. C-class Matt Skelton (an optional)
    -pulled out of three fights
-declined unification fight with Wlad at least once
-tired to fight Krasniqi instead of Valuev

the article states he suffered a moderate tear. the ACL didnt get torn off the heel, which is the worst. He will still need surgery however. They said he might be back by the end of the year. I don't buy it. ACL injuries in American football are very common and you usually see a return no earlier than 9 months. Jerry Rice is the only guy that made a lighting quick return after suffering the same injury. He was back in 3 months after surgery but he had the greatest work ethic in the NFL, but he was never the same after that. Other than him, i have never heard of a pro athlete coming back after 5 or even 6 months. I bet he is out at least 9 months. This is a devastating injury that you rarely see guys fully recover from.

Chagaev said he will come back. i doubt the WBA strips him though. Further unification is a pipe dream.

he should step aside or be stripped, then when he's healthy get an immediate shot if he wants it. that's in an ideal world of course

    What's the hatred all about?

Can't blame the guy for being injured.
