Totally ludicrous but I have suspicions about the WBA's true intentions. The winner of this so called "title fight" is probably being built up as a lamb for the slaughter and perhaps to get someone more marketable wearing their belt. If Chagaev wins will the WBA serve him up to someone like Deontay Wilder or perhaps Bryant Jennings?

And who of Chagaevs class has Wilder or Jennings beat?

Yeah, it's a phony title, but if it's being marketed, it's for Adamek.

I wholly believe that the reason Adamek did not pursue a fight with Pulev is b/c he's had his eye on the WBA minor title.

He tried on several occasions to fight ranked WBA fighters for the purpose of getting in with Potvektin, but to no avail.

I think this is a good matchup for a fake title, but the winner will be forced into decent fights on a regular basis. :think

Boring and undeserving title fight, but it's not really for a belt, it's for a fake belt that represents a mandatory position to fight Wlad later on.

I'm Ok with it, a fight is always better than no fight, but I hope the winner is forced to face Ortiz next and at least another mandatory before getting appointed as challenger for Wlad Klitschko.

Would be nice to see the WBA mandating eliminators between contenders here.

When the WBA created this FAKE title, Chagaev was the legit Champion. But since Chagaev looked for a unification fight with Wlad, they created this fake title, and without even winning a vacant WBA kiddie fight, they NAMED Valuev their champion.
Valuev was promptly robbed vs Haye, and Haye became their titlist.

Since Haye became their titlist, the WBA was fought for by
    Valuev
    Haye
    Ruiz
    Harrison(after winning prize fighter)
    Wlad
    Potvetkin
    Chagaev
Boswell(having earned his shot way back in 04)
    Huck
    Rahman(artificially ranked by name)
    Warwyk
    Chagaev
    Oquendo.

Now.......Not saying all those guys are top 5 HWs, but several of them are certainly great fighters in their own right.....and while the title itself is bogus, we can certainly appreciate "decent" if not solid match-ups stemming from this fake title.

People really need to stop believing the WBA regular title holder is a genuine titleist. It's no more than a chance of a mando shot 18 months down the line after taking the title, if you can win a few fights within the timeframe with at least 2 being forced by the WBA. Hell even the WBA clearly doesn't rate the holder of this as anything more than a mando with a unification fight the 'real' WBA champ seeing the 'regular' champ only receive 25% of the split.

The way it worked for Povetkin's reign was actually great for the division.

First fight mandated by the WBA for the 'vacant' title was against another top 10 fighter in Chagaev. Great fight.

Then Cedric Boswell was the next mando forced by the WBA. Not a bad fight as Boswell was always lingering about and close to a genuine title shot.

Then Team Povetkin set up a stay busy fight against the CW World champ Marco Huck in what was one of the greatest HW fights of all time. Superb fight.

Unfortunately then the WBA mandated Rahman for a shot at Povetkin. Team Povetkin tried their best to get out of this fight but to no avail. Povetkin processed destroy the former lineal and undisputed champ in stunning style.

With the Povetkin Klitschko fight purse deal agreed the WBA allowed Povetkin to fight the ranked and undefeated Andrzej Wawrzyk. Povetkin crushed him early in style. Wawrzyk has since gone on to show how good a young fighter he really is, he just happened to come up against a great in Povetkin that night.

Than we got the most sought after fight of the decade in Povetkin vs Klitschko partially cause of this belt. If only fannies like Mayweather and PacMan would make such a fight.

    Good post:thumbsup

Coulda been a GREAT POST had you left off the part about ppl thinking this is a genuine title.

No one considered this a genuine title when they gave the title to Valuev just prior to Wlad beating the genuine Champion.

And since Wlad beat Haye, and they made a vacant fight between Chagaev and Potvetkin, it became horribly clear they had no intention of legitimizing it.

But yeah, we have got several high quality fights out of it, and for that, Im thrilled.:happy:happy:happy

I don't think the WBA is particularly drooling over Adamek at this point. He's 37 years old, has losses to Gaskov and an aged Vitali looming over his head, and isn't particularly exiting. Wilder and Jennings may not be quite as proven but they bring youth and a greater element of excitement to the table as well as the element of being unbeaten.

    :thumbsupGood post.

But I think this kiddie title is a perfect chance for Adamek to boost his legacy, and it might get him a few big maydays vs the likes of Jennings, Wilder, Potvetkin, and Haye.:thumbsup

Someone more marketable like Bryant Jennings who already is WBC number 2 or number 3 contender? And Deontay who is mandatory for Stiverne?

I think it's bull****. This belt is just as valid as the silver WBC belt.

Luis Ortiz is the TRUE CHAMPION so just give him the belt... He will crush all challangers in his path. He will be next in line!
