    Sad. :-(

This is an all time low, even for the WBA.

Chagaev isn't a top ten HW anymore, and Oquendo isn't even top 50.

The winner of the "fight" will be mandatory for Wlad. Quite ridiculous.

I read that before... seriously :-(

If you look at the WBA title list since 2000, it's a struggle to find an actual concensus champ in there. If there even is any.
But this is the worst fight yet.

    Alexander Povetkin TKO3 Andrzej Wawrzyk
    Alexander Povetkin TKO2 Hasim Rahman
    Alexander Povetkin MD12 Marco Huck
    Alexander Povetkin KO8 Cedric Boswell

    Nikolay Valuev MD12 Evander Holyfield
    Nikolay Valuev UD12 John Ruiz
    Ruslan Chagaev UD12 Matt Skelton
    Ruslan Chagaev UD12 Nikolay Valuev
    Nikolay Valuev RTD3 Jameel McCline
    Nikolay Valuev TKO11 Monte Barrett
    Nikolay Valuev TKO3 Owen Beck
    Nikolay Valuev MD12 John Ruiz

There we go folks...THATS how bad the modern HW division has become.

What is the equivalent of this at WW for example?

Randall Bailey fighting Zab Judah for a title?

more like Collazo fighting Zaveck for a WBA regular title with the winner becoming Floyd's mando, Judah at least gave the current 140 lb champion a hard fight, Chagaev and Oquendo have done nothing for years

the WBA must not realise how much of a laughing stock they are

    No, he won't.

The WBA only made that stupid "kiddie" title soas it would allow the SuperChampion to make REAL TITLE FIGHTS.

They will allow Wlad to fight other mandatories or voluntaries for 18 months before the impose this fight.

And who's to say that the winner will want Wlad anyways. They'll have 18 months themselves before they're pushed for the fight.

And ftr........why is Chagaev not a solid fight?
He's beaten Meehan and Walker while they were relevant, Pudar has been a solid top 50 for a long time, and his other wins are just as solid as Wilders resume in the past 3 yrs, add Oquendo to that and he's got a solid case for a fight with Wlad.

Oquendo, while not being a top 20 for a fairly long time, has also maintained a solid LOC since his last title shot. Robbery losses to Holyfield, Toney and McCall who had been very relevant at the time of the fights, a very close fight with former world Champion, Mormeck......and his wins over solid C level competition over and over again have proven he's no less than a Blevel fighter. Beating Chagaev would be a very credible win to earn a fight with Wlad.

That said.......here's why this is actually a solid fight.
-The winner will already have a solid top 30 credible win. More than many can say.
-Guys like Haye, Adamek, and Potvetkin and other solid prospects/contenders will be lining up for their shot at a title, fake as it is.
-This will give Wlad next WBA mandate and even MORE credible resume.
-Chances are whoever wins this false title will do like Potvetkin and milk it....and that's good and bad. Good b/c they'll be forced into decent scraps like Potvetkin was and stop washed up can crushers like Rahman from enforcing their #1, bad b/c they can make other solid voluntaries like Huck and turn away potential big fights from the Champion, Wladimir.

Overall, I gotta like the WBAs line of reasoning for this fight. :think

13 UD or MD with 2 DQ/NC's out of those fights. Very few were conclusive wins and the 'opponents' were horrible which makes it even worse :-(

    The WBA is awful.

Stinking out the place against Valuev, then fighting old and completely irrelevant Ruiz, and then manages another HW title lowpoint by going 2 full rounds without a single punch landing against FRAUDLEY of all people...
No really one of the WBA HW belt finest hours.

You'l have to go lower than that.

More like Ashley Theophane vs Viacheslav Senchenko.
