Chagaev vs. Oquendo for WBA regular HW belt

How much has Bernd Bouenty paid the WBA to set up yet another cake walk defense for Wlad?

Louis Ortiz has been WBA no.1 one for years and should be fighting in this eliminator.

By looking strong and skilled in his last fight he got a red mark through his name on the K2 list of future opponents:tired:tired

 

This fight sucks balls and so does the title it's for

 

It's a paper belt and all guys. Not a bad match-up.

Presumably the winner will have to face one of Povetkin, Wilder, or Ortiz next and probably lose.

 

No. The Super Title holder is never obligated to fight the regular title holder.

 

Ortiz only 'GOOD' win was his LATEST win....Barrett was once upon a time as solid a Blevel fighter as any in the game....but at 43 with 2 yrs out of the ring, coming off a KO loss to a CW........not such a 'GOOD' win as it appears on paper.

Ustinov beat a MUCH better version of Barrett than Ortiz did, and he still had to go thru another 7-8 stay busy fights before being given a semi-final eliminator vs Pulev.

Not saying Ortiz is not a quality fighter, b/c he is, but he's still at least a top 30 away from being granted an eliminator, MUCH LESS A TITLE SHOT.

If Ortiz beats the winner of Chagaev vs Oquendo(will be Chagaev b/c he's never lost to a Blevel fighter) then Ortiz has proven himself a Blevel or better and worthy of a shot. :think

 

No it's two fighters past their best it sucks balls and the so called title makes it's an insult to the intelligence of boxing fans

It would seem even Luis Ortiz vs. Travis Kaufman (#2 vs. #4) - as sad as that is - would have a far greater claim to be worthy of being for the world title.

Like I said previously....Ortiz is quality.....but he aint really beat noone to merit being #2.
Kauffman.....ok....decent club fighter type, but when is he gonna make the step up and fight a legit journeyman? As of now his best win is either Koval or Tyson's older brother.

If Kaufman and Ortiz combined resumes, they still wouldnt equal Oquendos or Chagaevs. :yep

 

Career resumes, no, maybe not. Resumes in the last couple of years? This is and has always been a "what have you done for me lately" sport, remember.

Chagaev was last relevant when he challenged and lost decisively to current #5 Povetkin (showing clear signs already then of being a shot fighter compared with the very relevant version of himself from 2006-2007, and even the 2009 version that challenged and lost decisively to Klitschko) - though he did try valiantly and put a hurting on Sasha in the few rounds I gave him: the 6th, 7th and 12th.

Oquendo was last relevant twice as long ago.

The whipping of faded 2 Gunz Barrett is better than anything Fres has done since he lost to 45-year-old McCall in 2010 - or anything Chagaev has done since he lost to Povetkin in nearly as long, back in 2011.

Kauffman's ranking admittedly makes no sense. Grano exposed him years back as sub-domestic level. The only possible explanation for him being #4 is having scooped up a vacant bauble of the WBA's in beating Vincent Thompson - with Thompson coming off a loss. :!:

Realistically, the best available match-up between top ranked contenders who aren't total jokes is Ortiz vs. Chagaev - why are we not seeing that?


Of the four of them, proper ordering is closer to:

(that is, as of now, given all their recent achievements plus their current h2h viability)

1) Ortiz
2) Chagaev
3) Oquendo
4) Kauffman

 

Should be a great fight:
Chagaev is ranked 42 and Oquendo ranked 43 by the IWBR.
Neither has fought a top 60 opponent in the last 3 years.

This has nothing to do with, in your words, How bad the modern HW division has become. But everything to do with how shitty some of these stupid ass alphabet titles Orgs are at ranking fighters and deciding which ones fight in mandatorys. Chagaev is only rated in top 15 in one other Org(#3IBF) and Oquendo isnt in top 15 of any other.

If this Chagaev/Oquendo fight does happen, I'll be lighting candles and saying prayers that it ends in a Tie, so that neither fighter progresses any closer to a title shot. Chagaev was good, but that was yrs ago.

Thank God the IBF eliminator Fury/Chisora is a good one, and Pulev's journey to his spot is way more deserving than the WBA's
