now that Chagaev has resumed training and is poised to make a title defense before the year ends...it seems like perfect timing to match him with Wladimir for a unification bout....

    what am i talking about?

    link:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3008081

    Why the fight is perfect:

Both he and Wladimir are coming off minor physical problems that have delayed their returns to the ring (Chagaev with an 'accute inflammation' and Wlad with a broken finger in his left hand)....

They have been given ample time to recover and wouldn't enter the ring until late '07/early '08 anyway....

This match would be great for boxing and would restore some urgent excitement to the division...

though i'm sure Finkel is more concerned about his law-suit at the moment and is more likely to match Wlad against Tua to suppress a 5m lawsuit...

but i'd love to see Chagaev/Klitschko at the end of the year/beginning of '08

    thoughts?

It would be perfect I think, but all of this is up to the promoters, managers, networks etc.

From the article it sounded like Chagaev wanted to make an "easy" defense first. He needs to fight Wlad in late 2007 or early 2008 to redeem himself.

This is another blatent attempt to ruin Klitschko's career

Chagaev's getting paid big money to take a beating and bleed on wlad and infect him with the Hepetitis and herpes combination

this is so obvious and sad

Chageav coming back is great news for the Heavywieght division, I just hope his so called easy defense is against Shannon "the inhaler" Briggs.

    Good one!

I think, as has been said, that Chag is looking for an easy fight, as he don't mention any other titleholder, he merely wants to defend his title.

I am now starting to think that the assumption of someone being paid off is correct. The SUltan fight ended too fast and too all too convient for Evander.

The question is who in the hell is Ruslan going to fight? I think he should be put on the spot and asked point blank, will you fight wlad?.....and wait for his answer.....or excuse

Chagaev's promoter normally tends to avoid great risks, so given the current WBA rankings it will come down to

    1) Taras Bidenko (same promoter)
    2) Kali Meehan
    3) Mike Mollo
    4) DaVarryl Williamson

I'm sorry, those numbers were not intended as rankings #.

    Their current WBA rankings are

    Williamson #4
    Bidenko #5
    Mollo #8
    Meehan #13

And Tye Fields seems to be a very likely opponent as well as soon as he enters the top 15, thanks.

I wouldn't call an ailment that took chagaev from his training for what a month? and a broken finger major problems.
