Just watched a replay... At the end of the seventh a pretty good left hook landed square on the Wlad's chin after the bell when Wlad had his right down and was not protecting himself. Wlad shook it off without being visibly hurt and went on to finish the fight in the next round...
Sanders caught Wlad cold....that happens often in a first round or second, before enough adriniline is in the blood...happens to a lot of folks. Brewster got him all tired out....Brewster did it the opposite way of most which is to beat the guy tired...Brewster did it the Tex Cobb method. Totally China Wlad's chin ain't. Tonight his foot work was supurb....best I've seen from him.
But you notice that Chagaev made and effort to go reach out his glove to Wlad, right after the punch. He knew it was after the bell, but I think the training, and even adrenaline, sometimes causes them to keep throwing after the bell, without being aware of it, especially when they see an opening.
Did anyone else notice Wlad coming out hard for the 8th, like he wanted to punish Chagaev? That was interesting...
Wlad noticably was on his bike when he came out in the next round because he was anxious about being hit again, he then almost fell over into the ropes as he tried to back off when Chagaev threw a punch lol. Even after 9 rds he wasnt able to step in and finish the guy off through fear of being hit by a non puncher.
I'm not saying Chagaev did it intentionally, but it is clear in the replay that Wlad is absolutely relaxed and is lowering his hand. The punches you don't expect and don't see are the ones that do the most damage and Wlad was not fazed by the late hit at all. Another case for his chin being not too bad afterall...
Wlad's chin wasn't his enemy a few years ago -- it was his mind and stamina. I think he can take a punch. He just panicked and punched himself out with Brewster. With Purrity, Purrity just kept coming, and he punched himself out. With Sanders, he got nailed with a hard shot he didn't see and got back up only to get nailed with that sneaky straight left a few more times. He ALWAYS got back up, though.
It hit him up on the cheek and not on the jaw. As you can see, it didn't cause his head to rotate that much. It's usually the sudden rotation or torque that causes the brain to move inside the skull and cause a concussion. Wlad has no beard.
He's the Heavyweight champ of the world, one decent punch from a slightly above average puncher isn't going to put him away. Audley could of taken that shot. His chin is still weak, but pressure is what scares him most. I remember when Brewster made his legs buckle from under him in the 3rd round of their first fight. Even RJJ made fun of how weak his chin was that night.
It kills you seeing Wladimir dominate doesn't it............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
