I wouldn't say Canto was on his last legs or near-shot when he lost to Park.He had lost a step overall physically, but he still had his timing(and therefore skills)offensively and defensively.I'd probably compare him to the Laguna that fought Buchanan as far as where he was in his career. He looked fine imo against the huge puncher Avelar right before the Park bout.Vibonchai was tall and fought a smart fight tactically for much of the time, with lots of long straight punches, good short combos and kept things tight.imo That fight showed a fighter who knew what he had to do to beat Canto and minimalise his effectiveness, but didn't have the talent to dominate, albeit the Canto that won the rematch with Gonzalez would have had an easier time. There seems to be two general viewpoints when it comes to Miguel. Those who rate him near or at the very top both in accomplishment and raw head to head prowess....and those who also rate him highly as a great Flyweight, but feel his physical ability would see him struggle against a number of the best Flyweights. I would be in the latter group, but as far as the Park fight goes i don't hold it against him, as Park was an excellent talent with the right kind of attributes to greatly trouble any pure boxer. As far as how a fight with Canto at his very best goes, i would still favour the best Park, but anything less and he would get outgutted. The rematch more or less proved that.I doubt Park had the mental toughness to win a series against a great opponent, even one he held the stylistic advantage over.
Gene Tunney vs Jack Dempsey springs to mind for me. Sheer dominance for all but about 15 seconds, in two fights.
Griffith was competitive in the rounds, but he hardly won any of them imo. It wasn't an embarrassing loss to Griffith like some of the others have been embarassing to champions getting schooled here, but it should have been wide on the cards.
