Are there any notable boxers whom only began to box in their late teens or after? It seems that all good boxers begin young, but I was wondering if many people could think of any that started later. I can think of Nate Campbell, that's it!:tong
Carlos palomino began took up boxing when he was drafted for vietnam..Found out making the boxing team could keep him from going to front lines.. Was a natural and became a base and all service champ soon after.. Ken Norton similar story in Vietnam..Both guys were over 18. Martin Rogan was 28, granted he's far from an ATG, but his initial ambition was to win an Ulster senior title and he went onto win an Irish senior title, turned pro and went onto win a Commonwealth title
Grandpa Bernard had some amateur fights as a child and learned his game in the boxing prison system, white boy.
yeah but that doesnt really count as great background, just the basics and then turning pro at 23 and doing what he did is really impressive.
Undisputed 2x Heavyweight Champ Hasim "The Rock" Rahman got into boxing very late. Became heavyweight champ at 28, woot woot.
