I belive champions are made from birth on forward and molded by life. The reason I say that is the fact that most greats come from slums, ghettos and poor communities. One thing I love about the sport is it filters out the phonies........ You can't be a poser, first flush hit to the face will have you considering something else and throwing the gloves in a box in the garage only to be taken out again for the yard sale. With that being said can you name a great or a fairly good boxer that came from middle class or wealthy family?

(not taking digs and middle and high class just can't think of a great that comes from such backgrounds)

    Barrera

Ali grew up in a blue collar neighborhood, but he wasn't exactly a hood n*gga either

It was Sugar Ray Robinson that said it's something on the inside that makes champs. Sugar Robinson was in a street gang as a kid.

Most great fighters come from poor or working class backgrounds, but there are exceptions.

Marco Antonio Barrera came from a middle-class, or upper middle-class background.

Shane Mosley came from a middle-class background.

The word you're looking for is adversity. People that can overcome adversity, great adversity become legends.

Really? This would help explain why he doesn't have the "hustler" mentality when it comes to managing his career.

Muhammad Ali's family wasn't poor, but he still had a rough childhood. His father was an abusive drunk. The cops had to frequently come to the Clay household because of him and his violent incidents. He once gave Cassius a gash on his leg during one of these drunken rages.

I always thought floyd wasnt as hood as he acts, his family must have had cash with his dad and uncle being boxers, + where he is from isnt really tough, yet he has one of the best skillsets, also the klits werent poor.

He's in a similar boat as Ali to me. Not exactly rich kids, but they were also "privileged". Neither guy ever had to work a regular job in their lives. They had the opportunity to just focus solely on boxing. On the flip side, they both grew up with crazy AZZ dads.

Neither him or Nonito. These two let their wives bully them. That's the least G thing possible.

I've seen several documentaries lastly on him and they state he was an angry lil kid, but didn't make it clear weather he was poor or middle. I belive his father was a sign maker.
