Hi everyone, I just need to prove a point. The championship rounds used to be rounds 11,12,13,14,15 but now they are 11,12 that is correct isn't it? Its just that a poster in the lounge is trying to tell me that round 10 is one of the championship rounds. This is incorrect as far as I am aware. From what I know, the traditional boxing dynamic is that up to round ten is world level, and then to fight for the title and or championship then you need to prove yourself over the championship rounds, which used to be 11 through 15, but are now 11 through 12. I just want to know if you agree with me, thank you.
Ok thanks Ah yes I remember there were NABF title fights that were over 12 back in the 70's. Therefore the champ rounds were 13-15. Thank you.
Oh ok, I see, would you say today that they are 11 and 13 though Al? As in world level fights are 10 rounds and then to fight for the title you have to do the extra 2?
I realise it is not politically correct, and I do generally like to go with the social norm in boxing as far as safety goes. But in this instance I will indulge; I am with Al Francis on this issue.
Yeah I get that, that's not really where my question was coming from though TB, what I'm getting at is what are the championship rounds today? They are 11 and 12 right? Because the guy I was speaking to in the Lounge told me that round 10 is a championship round, and I don't think that's the case in todays dynamic, it is round 11 and 12, right?
sorry, I need to rephrase since the scrapping of rounds 13, 14, and 15, which rounds are the championship rounds? It's 11 and 12 right, but not 10. You generally have ten rounders without titles on the line, and with a title being on the line you have 11 and 12 added. I only ask because a poster in the lounge tried to tell me that round 10 is a championship round, so I wanted to ask here where I could get some sense, that's all.
They were, and classicly speaking, they still are. Rounds 11 & 12 used to be merely the last two rounds of a nontitle bout.
Yeah that's understood fully, I'm simply asking that in todays dynamic, it is only 11 and 12 that are the championship rounds right? Not round 10 though. One guy was trying to tell me that round 10 is a championship round, but contenders do ten rounds all the time so it isn't a championship round, right? I never made this thread to compare eras, I did it to get some clarification on a discussion I had with a poster earlier. Everybody seems to be focusing on how fighters of the past had to do 15 rounds and todays shitty fighters don't and they'll never ever compare to fighters of the past, I get it I get it, Barbados Joe Walcott would KO Wlad Klitchko in a round, I get your point guys Can anyone actually help me with my question now please?
It's ok guys, this answers my quesion. Gheez I'm sorry I made this thread now, I hope it never gets bumped again. Classic agenda is on another level man.
Yes, technically rounds 11 and 12 are the so called "championship rounds". I was somewhat eliptical in making my point, sorry 'bout that Teeto.
it's all good my man, no need to apologise, you've always been one of my favourite posters, you know that RC. Thanks for clearing that up for me my man. Ive just been havng a rough time whenever I come in classic lately, Sorry to be an ass with you there if that's how it seemed, that wasn't my intention my man.,
haha very good point. That was bull**** how they made a heavyweight championship (when a championship was a championship) a ten round fight.
