Just wondering, what are the odds of getting your hooter broken if you take a straight punch right on that sensitive area. Also, what are the chances of the break being bad enough to permanently disfigure the nose?

Some guys like Calzaghe and De La Hoya seem to be impervious to this danger while some fighters have real screwed up broken noses. It's almost like a lottery.

Asking because this is probably the single most reason why I have never actually stepped inside the ring. For fear of screwing up my nose for good.

I had my nose broken 3 times, ribs two times. In kickboxing broke my foot on an opponent's elbow and my toes stayed broken. I am paying for it now. Tex Cobb had all the cartilage taken out of his nose, which can help if you have this problem. The biggest problem I had with a broken nose is my eyes watered a lot, causing some problem seeing, but not too bad. Feels numb.

I've got a nice nose. I've considered boxing but then I think about my nose and change my mind.

I heard that Mario Lopez uses a cross-bar, which I think protects the nose, while sparring. That could be useful.
