Wlad and AJ are doing the right thing by unifying 2 belts. Parker and Wilder could unify the other two major ones this year. Then, the winner of the two matches could fight themselves. That's what should happen, and really, if it did it would be the most exciting series of hw bouts since the 90s. But as we all know, what should happen in boxing usually doesn't. What are the chances?
Very low, and I think that's due to Wilder. I don't believe he will ever fight Fury, AJ, Wlad etc...the only champ I think he would take on is Parker and that's a pick'em fight.
Extremely low. Look how long it took Wlad to get 3 of the 4 belts and he was willing to fight anyone. Unification isn't easy a lot of it has political roadblocks like promoters, network tv differences between fighters etc.
I doubt it will happen in 2017. Even if all the titlists want to genuine unify, these things rare go smoothly the best laid plans can be up ended with one unexpected loss. I doubt Wilder/Parker will happen, Wilder is looking to avoid any real threat and now Povetkin is no longer a mandatory after his failed test it's likely he can keep milking the title while facing poor opposition. Parker isn't a big enough draw for Wilder to be enticed by a big purse to make this fight happen. So you'd need the winner of AJ/Wlad to have 2 further unification fights this year. If Wlad wins it won't happen as he only fights twice per year when active in recent years, so him fighting 3 times and unifying all the belts seem not probable. If AJ wins it's a big ask for him to then fight Wilder and Parker likely back to back. Wilder is being protected and Parker needs more time to develop, at 24 he's very young in boxing terms.
It's funny how Wilder who regularly states he wishes to unify all the titles, is now the one that is stalling the process somewhat. He still may take up Parkers offer which I'm uncertain if Team Parker gave him a reasonable deadline. I personally am waiting to hear what Wilder has to say about the offer. I'm wondering if Wilder even knows about it, he should do. He was quick to speak out about Povetkin latest doping fiasco and understandably so. The HW championship could have one champ next year in as quickly as 3 fights.
Good analysis. This is probably right. Wilder is the key, though. Unlikely as it is, if he has more ambition than he's shown to this point, and takes on Parker, it could happen.
