Last heavyweight title fight I remember on free to air was Tyson-Bruno I. Great news, hope it leads to more coverage, though I think they could have picked a better fight to lead off.
Channel 7 showed the Kotsya Tszyu Vs Jesse James Leija fight a few years ago. good to see fights back on free to air.
That would be a dream Leon mate.:good I could always say a nice shoutout to all the esb guys & boxing fans in Australia that were deprived of TV coverage for so long.:deal
Just to confirm....Channel 10 have stated that they will be showing the Heavyweight Title Match Wladimir Klitschko vs Tony Thompson. Channel 10 are testing the waters to see how much of a response & ratings they get in regards to this fight. If all goes well, Channel 10 are very keen to show more Overseas & Australian based boxing in the coming months.... Telecast starts from 6amEST/4amWST.
This is great news for hardcore boxing fans like all of the people on this forum. The problem is that no one outside of us will be watching this at 4 am sunday morning. I don't believe many general sports fans would be bothered watching this at all (they wouldn't know who Klitschko or Thompson are), that is even if they know it is on. The first i heard about it was this thread in the last day or so. Are the TV station doing much in the way of promoting that it is on to the viewer. I really hope this is a success for the TV station so we can see much more cards like this in the future. If would be brilliant if we saw the regular HBO and Showtime cards free to air here (not ppv) like they see in UK or USA. I just don't see this being a viable expense for the TV company. I hope i am wrong and it is a huge success.
Guys. We all have to tell all our mates, and just about any sports lover we know, so that we can build up the ratings. Lets be honest, a Klitschko fight won't be that exciting, but provided we can generate some sort of audience, then this will lead to bigger and better things, maybe even a Margarito-Cotto fight or Calzaghe-Jones Jr.
