Hi guys, in keeping with how modern sports continue to evolve with different rules and criterias etc......i think a huge change in boxing could well be needed. With MMA evolving at a rapid rate and competing with boxing for ratings..one change i could think of that could have a huge impact on matchmaking and excitement is to change the weight limit in each division. Of course this could only be done in a meeting between the main 4 sanctioning bodies and national assoications. With human beings generally heavier a few name changes to certain division would have to apply. Also whilst some division could lose there steep history...we must remember that history should not stop us progressing. This is an example i had in mind and with a possible top 10 list to boot. Featherweight 130- Lightweight 140- Hatton Pacquaio Holt Bradley Campbell Casayamour Diaz Welterweight 160- K. Pavlik Abraham O. De La Hoya Margarito Mosley Cotto Cintron Clotty P. Willaims c. Spinks Middlweight 185- Calzaghe Hopkins, Dawson Taylor Lacy Froch L. Bute Roy Jones Light-Heavyweight 210- Haye Macrenelli Chambers Heavyweight 210+ I must go as my boss is coming but basically if anyone wants to fill out the possible top 10 in each division it would be welcomed.....the main thing is the possible top matches between individuals.......and it would help improve boxing as boxers themselves cant nitpick.
I definitely agree that fewer weight classes would be a huge benefit to boxing. It would definitely cut down on confusion for casual fans. Also, talent-depth in each division would be much deeper since there would simply be more fighters. Sadly, I don't know how we would get the sanctioning bodies to agree to this. Brainstorm time!
It'll never happen. The money making possibilities of several champions in needless weight classes is too great. More champs, more money. It's actually good for the boxers. Even mediocrities can win belts and make dough. Don King , Bob Arum , and Golden Douche would all go broke with only 8 weight divisions and one champ per weight class.
i have no problem with the other wieght divisions. it's just the amount of world titles that confuse everything. ibo wbc iba ibf wbu wbo wba ibc nba wbf ring....undistpued lineal p4p amatuer. for god sake my mate said to me is amir khan not fighting in the olympics thenatsch light middle, super middle, light welter, light fly, cruiser, jnr bantam i have no problems with. they all have great champions in them and to throw them away would bew a bad move. could you expect terry norris fight at middlewieght :think
15 round fights, less money for fighters(like the ufc, that way guys fight more to make more money rather then hold out and cherry pick), less early stoppages. less joe cortez.
I disagree, if any thing boxers in general should make more money, right now only the top 10% see any real dough.
