If Galento can do it is a pretty good argument. The best fighter Hide ever knocked out was a 1997 version of Tony Tucker. I would probably bet he wouldn't knock Louis down in the time frame given, but I'd be nervous.

So you're saying that Hide would get a hiding?

I agree. He could. But then Louis would get up and make him regret he got out of bed that day.

Never mind Galento, Braddock was able to floor Louis an I’m sure Hide could punch harder than him. People forget that Hide did seem to hurt Bowe several times in their fight an Bowe had always had a good chin. My moneys on Louis to get up an beat Hide even if he was knocked down. He’s in my top 5 h2h heavyweight of all time but the fight against a fast moving Hide who also have good handspeed an decent power ain’t as easy as so many people here think

Just watched Hide vs Bowe, he repeatedly rocked Bowe and had him hurt.

Dropping Joe Louis is someone many can do surviving a few rounds after knocking him down is a very different matter. Galento got Louis down when he was already long and didn't survive long after Louis got back up.

    Why?
Because I said so, no further elaboration

He absolutely did. You can see Riddick kind of shudder even the first time he gets hit solid.

Bowe named Herbie as the hardest puncher in Best I Faced and said he planned to box him but after he got hit it was like ‘I can’t let him hit me like that again’ and went after him … Mike McCallum had a similar change of plan with Julian Jackson where it’s ’if I don’t find a way to get this guy out of here, he’s going to catch me and it’s going to be over.’

Yes, Hide could knock down Joe Louis. I’d even go so far as to say he probably would as Joe was a slow starter. But the Brown Bomber went through that routine a few times and always got up to turn the tables (with the exception of Schmeling I). He does so in this matchup too.

Quite a few heavyweights that were in the top ten over the decades could drop Joe Louis.
It's keeping him down that would be the issue, and would be for Hide as well.
Problem for Hide and most other heavyweights in history, would be how aggressive would they be when consistently getting beat to the punch or countered with power, speed , and accuracy they've never encountered, or have any answer for.
Only a select few heavyweights in history beat Joe Louis on his best night.
Herbie Hide isn't one of them.

Joe Louis sent me a message from the other side that said you must elaborate.

Hide had tons of power. Simply going off of given statement, he was a stronger puncher than Lewis, Morrison, Golota, Holyfield, and many other heavy handed guys from the nineties.
He was always an interesting guy, he had a fun style and was always pretty entertaining, but he never really fully realized his potential.
    Long live The Dancing Destroyer!

Whenever we get threads like this----they are always a single point of view. As in if Braddock and others could knock down Joe, so would X.

Could we also say if Chingangu knocked down Herbie what would a Joe Louis do?
