Apparently AIBA is going to scrap headgear for senior male (elite) boxers some time this year. In conversations I have had in Australia, Boxing Australia will make it optional if elite boxers wear headgear or not. Also from next year the word is computer scoring is out and the amateurs will be going back to a pro style of scoring that will involve punches, ring control and style. Will be interesting to see how this plays out although it could only help produce better pros down the track.
hopfully this eventuates. current scoring is terrible and teaches bad habits for guys turning pro. like you said can only improve guys who decide to turn pro.
i would like to see some based scoring system developed in the ABL, the league has alot of potential only on the aussie seen...
Head gear is a ridiculous hindrance to the sport, they should be used for sparring and that is all. WSB is a heap of **** too. Amateur boxing should be a training ground for the professional ranks not a game of tag using pitter patter punches.
totaly agree introducing 12yr olds to the sport and sparring with no head gear is a good idea... you are an egg....
Re-read what I said you utter tool. Headgear makes the head heavier and harder to move out of the way, headgear was designed for cut protection - nothing more. It was introduced as a way to get the anti-boxing losers to be quiet. It is ridiculous to use in competitive fights.
you have a point prob from a certain age get rid of the head gear or re design it? but we still have to have to head protection in amatuer fights especially for young kids coming into the sport regardless if its sparring or there first few bouts
No, I have the definitive answers, you are clearly too mentally inept to understand. Head guards are not designed to protect the brain from trauma. They stop cuts and were introduced for sparring. Young kids probably shouldn't be competing anyway but that is a separate debate. The theory on knock outs and brain damage is the brain hitting the skull at a high force. Headgear increases the weight and size of the head as a target and thus is more dangerous.
Couldnt agree with you more. Its an absolute pain in the ass, it impeds your vision, restricts your breathing and as you said adds weight to your head. It stops cuts and keeps the flogs away that think Boxing should be banned, even though I think it makes it more Dangerous, in my opinion.
I have read articles along these lines and I agree as well head gear does nothing to protect from brain damage only cuts. Get rid of it should be used in sparring only.
