Changing body composition on maintenance cals

Discussion in 'Boxing Training' started by BUMPY KNUCKLES, Dec 29, 2011.

  1. Is it possible to change your body composition while weight training on maintenance calories? Basically burn off your excess fat and build muscle?

  2. C'mon I know theres a few people on here that can answer my Q's!!!

Some say that it's even possible even on a calorie deficit. Even if true, it's probably hard to pull off though.

I'm ignorant on the subject, other than what other people tell me, so I'm eager to hear what our resident experts have to say on the subject.

I think it should be possible but you'd have to be pretty spot on with what you consume and your maintenance level would change as you build more muscle. Timing of your nutrients would probably be the most important thing if this is what you're doing.
If you're on a calorie deficit weight training would be detrimental to muscle growth but you still might get some strength gains due to nervous system adaptations, for a limited period of time.

  6. Ok thanks lefty, I may try this but its difficult knowing how many calories I really need as my day job can be very physically demanding on one day and not so much on another may be safer to stay on a surplus I guess.
