I know it shouldn't especially not nowadays but if you changed the following fighters races how would they be judged would it be any different? Rocky Marciano - coloured Cassius Clay - white Roy Jones - white Floyd - white the klitschkos - coloured or any others?
You mean would they have had the same kind or number of opportunities to shine as they did if their race was different? I tend to think their race wouldn't have made a difference. Real talent will almost always come to the surface. Perhaps what would have mattered more was their geographical or political situation. If they had lived far away from the U.S., or their government was too closed, withdrawn or ethnophobic (is that even the right word?), I doubt they would have been discovered as quickly as they were.
That is fair enough i just think bigger white guys especially heavies back in the day would normally get KTFO so was just wondering peoples thoughts were. But that was the reply i expected
Sam Langford and Ezzard Charles if they were white, would've been even greater because they would've had more opportunities.
While we are one this topic what the hell is Fergie?? She white, black or hispanic. They seem to try and market her as all of them.
You need to visit the rest of the world... In Africa alone, you get people who are deprived of opportunities simply because of their tribal affiliations. Like in Ghana, if you're not from the Ga tribe, you're not likely gonna get any opportunites in boxing unless you get out of Ghana. I'm sure in Russia, the white, western Russians get way more opportunities than the Siberian-Oriental ones. In the US, you got kids like Arturo Gatti, Vinnie Paz, Yuri Foreman, Dimitry Salita and other white kids get way more opportunities than blacks and hispanics. Look at Wayne McCullough and Oscar Larios, two comparable fighters talent-wise and stylewise. There is no question who had more opportunity. Imagine if Emmanuel Augustus was white??? He'd be the next Willie Pep. If Hopkins was caucasian, it wouldn't have taken him fifteen years to make a name, or money. To say that real talent will almost always come to the surface is being pretty naive. The human race is a xenophobic lot. It's built-in and it takes quite an effort to over-ride it.
ahhahahaha this is the biggest cry baby bull**** post ive ever heard ORCAR LARIOS??? :rofl stop crying and moaning. Hopkins didn't get popular cause his style is not crowd pleasing and he didn't wanna sign with a big name promoter.
I do agree that white fighters have more occasions than fighters from other races. However we can't get carried away and say compare Augustus to Pep. Now that's blasphemy.
