One of the annoying things about these forums is it seems so few people are able to admit they were wrong about a fighter. They just dig in and change their argument against them. How many times have Wlad haters said "so and so" would beat him, so and so was so good and Wlad hadn't been tested like that. Then "so and so" gets beat and they suddenly become a bum. Personally, I picked pretty much every "step up" for Deontay Wilder to beat him, Harrison, Scott, and Stiverne, and was wrong each time. I was wrong about Wilder, he's clearly a top 5 heavyweight. Anyone care to admit to a boxer they were wrong about?
I was wrong about Porter vs Brook, I gave Brook his props. I was wrong about D. Garcia vs Herrera, Peterson, & Matthysse. I think Herrera, Peterson, and Garcia were victorious. Can't think of any others right now.
I thought Andy Lee would never win a title after losing a couple , now look at him top 5 middleweight.
Clearly a top 5, who has Wilder beaten that's top 15 nevermind top 5? Why are names like Wlad, Povetkin, Fury, Pulev, Takam, Thompson, Perez, Jennings, Chagaev etc on his resume? He's not "clearly a top 5 HW" by beating guys like Stiverne, Molina, and Duhaupas.
You're usually a good poster Fury, you really get too hung up on Wilder though. Stiverne was top 5 HW, Wilder beat him. There's a good ****ysis of this in one of the other threads I commented on earlier. Few top 10 v top 10 contest nowadays, especially among unbeaten HW's, as you know as well as anyone. Wilder's resume is better than any other unbeaten, undrawn hw except maybe Tyson Fury. This isn't a Wilder thread, its an "admit to a mistaken belief on a boxer" thread. A lot of posters on these boards could stand todo it more often.
At one time, I thought Floyd Mayweather Junior was a clean athlete. Turns out he's the biggest doping cheat in the sport.
I was just pointing out WIlder hasn't proved himself to be a top 5 HW..... I don't consider Stiverne anywhere near top 5, I think someone like Glazkov would outbox him comfortably despite many of his flaws, and not being top 10 himself. Not trying to derail your thread, but you detailed that in the OP so........
I thought Froch was a fearless warrior... until he retired just to duck GGG out of fear I thought Canelo was never gonna fight Lara, he proved me wrong I thought Abner Mares was a future HOFer but he turned out to be a chump. maybe Gonzalez just ruined him? I thought Rigo was the truth and ducked nobody until he ducked Loma I thought Wilder was going to fight Malik Scott in an eliminator match that was a good step up for Wilder at the time i was proved wrong when Scott took a blatant dive that looked fishier than Mickey Rourke's last match
