Channel 5/Boxing Update

I thought Mick had options on his next two fights in UK. Maybe I'm wrong.

 

yeah i cant see channel 5 buying into the euphoria that a domestic showdown gave them will lead on to them being able to sell 2 foreign heavyweights clashing

for the boxing hardcore thats a lovely fight that, not to your average fan it isnt though, sadly

 

agreed, but it would make more sense if they were to ally with primetime like they did with fury and khan.
1 other point - everyone saying hennessy has only got fury.well maybe so but equally hennessy is the only manager with a terrestrial tv deal , which menas his fighters become instantly to known to millions more people than if they stuck to say worren/sky. i wouldn't mind betting that there are several decent boxers and/or prospects who might be thinking that they are not being treated as well as they could be by their present set up, and thinking that fighting for hennessy in front of millions of viewers might be an attractive alternative. isn't it also likely that heenessy needs these boxewrs as much as they need him , so he may well be willing to cut them a better deal than they are presently on. someone like theophane is the sort that springs to mind -he thinks he's good, but badly treated and not getting the exposure he deserves. i'll leave you lot with more knowledge than me to suggest others who might fit the bill

 

That was the first live boxing I have watched for a long time on television. I refuse to subscribe to Sky or anything else to do with the Murdoch empire.

Hennessy was considering Fury topping a card in Kings Hall, Belfast on the 17th September against a Canadian opponent, but because of the clash with the McCloskey promotion [10th September] wisely opted against it and will put this show on in London instead.

There's real opportunity here for C5 to tap into a niche audience, and C5 who normally struggle to get decent ratings I believe will embrace the sport and run with it. In some ways boxing is probabley too small for ITV1 and BBC1 unless there's a marquee name involved such as Khan, Froch or Haye, whereas C5 can show good British/Commonwealth or European title contests making it the perfect place for boxing to return to terrestrial TV in Britain.
