The first one is probably true as well, yet you have to take into account that Downton Abbey has been one of the TV success stories of the last few years, it's massive in the States and has made stars out of previously unknown's in the cast. I'm with you in that I would rather go for a number 2 without taking off my pants off than watch it myself but it has made ITV a lot of money.

Terrestrial TV doesn't owe us a basic right to watch the sport we want, sport on TV has now become subscription based and that's how it's going to be for the near future.

Free channels = dross shows, not much live TV, no sport, lowest investment for maximum ratings.

When you consider subscription channels, the Sky is the limit (excuse the awful pun) so long as people are prepared to pay for it. If Sky could get 20m+ PPV buys then they would put on a show with Wlad vs Haye, Burns vs Broner, Froch vs Ward and Khan vs Garcia in the same night in a heart beat if it was going to line their pockets heavily. That's the grim reality that we're facing as boxing fans, get the big fights and get shafted financially or stick with the cheaper option, pay peanuts and get monkeys.

 

At the end of the day they are more intelligent people than all of us posting on here doing the sums at these tv stations and as far as boxing is concerned it just doesnt look viable for council telly I'm afraid
