No offense Seamus, but I think you kind of shot yourself in the foot with that Marciano-Walcott I was "not a one punch kayo." Come on man. You a very intelligent guy. You don't honestly believe that do you?

I'm guessing that Rocky just didn't land that one big punch needed to knock Charles the F out.

I think he was a dynamite puncher, but his accuracy was off. But once he hit you clean, you were outta there. But he settled on hitting whatever was available.

I have seen everyone of the so-called punchers struggle to KO a fighter Foreman,Lewis,Dempsey,Louis, and fighters that were KO'd by others.....funny how people bring up Cockell like Don should have been KO'd in 1, the fight was a one-sided slaughter and they guy showed bravery but he was slaughtered....Its tough when a guy comes to survive...as far as Marciano being a one-punch power guy, I think he proved it more than once.....

Quick question: I believe someone mentioned that Charles started suffering ALS symptoms during his career. Was it as early as the Marciano bouts?

According to Bert Sugar, this is true. But you can't always believe him..

Marciano was wearing him out with the pace and the old man walked into a punch. I think too much is made out of that. People act like it was a thuderbolt from Zeus. It was the combination of a tiring, old fighter miscalculating and walking into a haymaker. All credit goes to Marciano but let's not blow it out of proportion.

Historically inaccurate. Walcott was winning some of his biggest, clearest, most punishing rounds in round 11-12. Don Dunphy later said he wasn't sure Marciano would even come out for the 13th round.

walcott didn't "walk" into the punch. In fact, he was cutely back-peddling near the ropes and stopped to throw a right hand. Marciano's was quicker... and much shorter.

Let's not blow it out of the water? Probably the greatest KO in the history of boxing. It has everything going for it. 1 Punch, Significance, Adversity (Come back from behind), Brutality, Technique, Beginning of an Era. What's not to love?

I thought Walcott was using his right to block the jab that Rocky feinted? To hear Teddy Atlas tell it, Rocky feinted a jab to distract Walcott and then threw the real punch, which was the Suzy-Q.

The feint caused Walcott to throw the right hand.

Rocky deserves his credit. He set up a brilliant punch. Feinting is a lost art, unfortuneatly.

charles retired at 21 and returned after the war at age 24. with a new record Charles was 55-7 against marciano who was 45-0 and only 2 years younger.. when you consider of those losses only the walcott KO was not disputed (and he beat him 2times) you realise charles WAS at his prime. Both charles and marciano started around the same time after the war only differance was Charles also had a breif 2 year career before the war -as a kid.

If memory serves Walcott entirely shot his wad in the 11th trying to put Marciano away and was gassed by the 13th. Walcott was moving into the punch certainly, tho it was beautifully set up by the Rock. I just don't get the over the top fawning over Marciano's 1 punch power because he KO's a fragile, inconsistent, old man who is gassed. Certainly it is a fantastic KO but not the greatest ever when put in context.

I agree with the cliche of "got cocky and went for the KO" in Rocky-Walcott. Perfect counter by the rock, but Walcott must have been slapping himself after this one.

    Well, after he woke up.
