https://twitter.com/stprincecharles Charles Martin has surfaced and is littering twitter with his sorry excuses for his "performance" last weekend. Claims he was distracted and that he "beat himself because his minds not there" Where the hell was it then? Picturing himself laying on his sofa, counting all the cash he got for doing jack ****. Distracted by thinking about the nice car or new ridiculous grill he is planning to get on his teeth. Also, stating he is planning to "see Joshua again soon" to fight for a belt. Like anyone would want to see a repeat of the least competitive HW championship match in recent memory... He is without doubt the definition of a Grade A bum..
Martin's a journeyman/fringe contender type who lucked out to "win" the title on a freak injury and then was exposed for what he was by a real world class HW. The fight with Joshua was a mismatch from day one. I never understood how any boxing fans thought this fight would be remotely competitive.
I feel sorry for him. I mean obviously he's talking BS but he's a genuinely nice guy and he just suffered a humiliating early blow out and must feel very embarrassed. However, I have zero sympathy for Gary Russell Jr. and his delusional BS excuses and the way he's been carrying on since the loss to Lomachenko.
Your mind wasn't there? It's nobody's fault but yours. Joshua is just a superior fighter , even if Martin's mind was there still would have lost.
I wouldn't feel sorry for him. He made a good chunk of change off that Joshua fight, a better purse than he'd likely ever got had his career taken the "normal" journeyman/fringe contender trajectory. And now, he'll be able to have a nice career serving as a "name" opponent for up and comers to pad their record with.
Yep.:good Everyone including himself knows he quit like a little beeeech. Pathetic way to give up your belt/title.
You shouldn't come out with "I will see them again soon" or ''he's got to see me again soon'' lines after getting your ass paddled. Just admit you lost to the better man and that you would love the opportunity to avenge the loss at some point.
You people are so hard on fighters. These guys do something wholly unnatural. Of course this guy has to lie to himself. Of course he has to rebuild his ego. Of course he has to produce an alternative truth as to why he received a potentially life-threatening brain injury last weekend in order to be able to continue with his career. Fighters have always done it. Always will. It's the fans who have become different and rather pathetic if i'm honest. That said, i'll admit it's unfortunate that these guys tend to rebuild themselves in public on twitter now.
I really warmed to this guy's personality in the build up to the fight, i thought he was a great character to have in the scene its a shame he didn't live up to expectations, hopefully he can come back and get in the mix. I'm doubtful after that performance but who knows its up to him to prove it. There was one moment just before the fight started the camera panned to his face and he looked like he was ****ting himself to me. Of course its natural to have sympathy for him but at the same time, this is life its how you get back up and feeling sorry for yourself is the first thing you have to stop doing.
I know he earned himself an awful lot of coin and he will be set for life if he uses his brain and doesn't blow it all on gold jewelry and fancy things. And yes, he was awfully lucky he even got the chance to call himself a world champion. That said, I still feel a bit sympathy for him because he's a likable chap. If he was a POS it would be a different story.
I guess this is how I feel although he knows full well he lied to the public in the build up when his camp claimed ridiculous things such as him having never lost a round in sparring.
Because we live in hope. There's a saying "you can't tell how good an unbeaten is" ... and I was hoping that Charles Martin would actually turn out to be better than he'd previously looked. Some fighters do. They come in with unremarkable unbeaten records, and a string of dull performances, and actually rise to the occasion and show that they are quite good. Dillian Whyte gave Joshua a decent fight, and there was hope that Charles Martin, allegedly one of America's top 10 HWs and also the IBF champ, would perhaps be somewhere in Whyte's league. This just shows how far US heavyweights and the IBF have sunk.
Mcgrain is spot on. Fighters have always been self deluded and that's what keeps them fighting after losses. This mentality is also what drives them to pull off upsets when nobody else believes in them. And when they lose comprehensively, in their mind they think they still won ie. Bradley vs Pac 1, Pac vs fmj.
