Anyone who questions Layne's chin should checkout this film

Being knocked out by Marciano after standing up to his punches for several rounds proves what exactly?

I think "sturdy" is a fair summation of Layne's chin. His defense was not good so he was relying a great deal on his chin. His chin was okay, but not in the Chuvalo or Uzcudun class.

My main point is that this discussion has been about Layne versus Oma. Layne certainly had a sturdy chin compared to Oma, who was stopped 17 times in his career, 8 times in the third or earlier, 4 times in the first round--by Altus Allan, Erv Sarlin, Jack Marshall, and Panther Williams. Getting stopped in 6 by Marciano is nowhere near as embarressing as this, and surviving punchers like Walcott, Satterfield, and Thompson does speak well for Layne's whiskers.
