    I for one, am not.

Charles is better in every way with the exception of power, but then Charles punches hard enough to keep Dempsey's attention here.

Both very similar in size. The difference in quality of opposition is gigantic.

Dempsey was wild and I see gaping holes in his defense that Charles would exploit.

    Charles stops Dempsey mid rounds.

You think HW Charles has faster hands than Dempsey?

dempsey has a better chin is naturally bigger and probably a fair bit quicker as well.

i'd pick charles too but not by stoppage and dempsey'd stop him now and again if they fought a bunch of times.

The his best Dempsey was a brutal highly skilled quick killer in the ring. At his best he kos Charles inside 10 rounds. Not many could withstand prime Dempseys short punching inside game. Charles did not have the wheels to keep Jack off of him.

I think Charles could beat Dempsey to the punch consistently, and that's what matters.

Dempsey ko's Charles ,Walcott flattened him with a left hook ,Dempsey's best punch. Dempsey was faster and hit harder than Walcott and he had a better chin than either Charles or Jersey Joe.

Charles was stopped 7 times Dempsey just once and that may have been a fix. You have achieved what I thought was impossible for you , gotten worse.:patsch

I've never seen Charles throw a punch that literally starts below his knee. I don't think Dempsey has particularly fast hands, so yes, probably Charles has faster hands.

So because Walcott managed to do it once in 3 fights, Dempsey is gonna do it? Dempsey was most definitely not faster and he didn't hit harder than Walcott, and if he did, the difference isn't much.

Chin? Dempsey was dropped almost as many times as Patterson. I definitely wouldn't say he has a better chin.

Yes, but look at the enormous difference in quality of opposition between the two. Replace Charles with Dempsey and see how Dempsey comes out.

Dempsey did not hit harder than Walcott? What convoluted logic does that come from? Those who watched all these fighters live from ringside rated Dempsey and Louis as very comparable KO punchers. Fleischer who saw both more than anyone felt Dempsey hit harder than Louis. Sharkey the only man to fight both Dempsey and Louis felt Dempsey hit harder. He stated "if Dempsey hit you on your hip he broke your hip, it he hit you to the body it felt like it came out your back, if he hit you on the shoulder he dislocated your shoulder. That's extremely hard punching. Walcott although a sharp puncher was not in the same universe as Louis or Dempsey. You cannot compare Walcott to Dempsey. Dempsey was an ATG with ATG attributes. Walcott was a tricky boxer but did not have the durability or punching power comparable to Dempsey. Suggest you sit down and watch Dempsey very carefully on film. He was a unique highly skilled fighter. None like him as hwt before or since.

How many times was Dempsey ko'd?

Dempsey was one of the best short punchers the heavyweight division has ever seen ,you are talking from ignorance.

I'm not saying Dempsey doesn't belong in the ring with Charles, but I'd like to see the footage of all of this defensive prowess and fast-handed combination punching I read about regarding Dempsey. Those moments are fewer and further between than he's given credit for by some.
