Came across this article with Ezzard Charles at approximately 185 lbs and Holyfield at 190 lbs. It had Ezzard Charles winning a split decision. The match looks pretty realistic to me. What are your thoughts? http://theboxingtribune.com/2016/01/01/historical-fight-night-evander-holyfield-vs-ezzard-charles/
I like it. Its a tough call. I don't think there is a wrong answer. It probably goes to a decision. You can make a case for either being the winner.
I wouldn't argue with that decision. Both great fighters , tons of heart and would realistically give any lineal champ a hard time on there best day. A trilogy would be great, all 15 rounders. Just no idea how it would end.
Charles name always comes up in the discussion of ATG LHW 's. EH at CW didn't have the experience and CV of Charles who fought many HW. At HW version of EH wins on pts but at CW Charles wins on pts.
Charles if we are being honest here. Holyfield beat Qawi at sub 200. He would be the same size as Charles and Charles is much more skillful.
These guys look awfully similar in the face area. Fantasy bout at Light Heavy, Cruiser AND Heavyweight for these guys. And I agree with the outcome.
My grandfather believed that a prime Ezzard Charles would have a good chance at beating a prime Sonny Liston. That would be an interesting fight, a 1950 Charles vs a 1960 Sonny Liston
Robinson manager mentioned to him about moving up and fighting Ezzard Charles to which Sugar Ray Robinson replied "I thought we were friends" His manager said "We are" Then Ray Robinson said "Then why do you want me to fight Ezzard Charles" Robinson may have had a slight speed and skill advantage, but I think Ezzard Charles would have been one hurdle he couldn't jump when you factor in the fact that Charles too was a pound for pound great and had a significant size advantage.
Did anyone see this mural that the city of Cincinnati had painted of Ezzard Charles? http://www.artworkscincinnati.org/mural/ezzard-charles-the-cincinnati-cobra/
