Who would win this fight between two underrated Heavyweight Champs?

Both were skilled boxers, perhaps Patterson has an advantage in handspeed and power, but I'd give Charles the advantage on chin and technique.

I see Charles winning a close 15 round decision but if you ask me tomorrow I may well pick Floyd....

How do you see this fight unfolding?

Charles, the classic stand up boxer/puncher with all the moves and solid chin. Patterson, with arguably the quickest hands in Heavy history, great left hook, motivated, determined, a stalkers style with a somewhat shakey chin. Charles seemed to do just enough to win his bouts. Not quit the same due to the Bourudi fight, where Ezzard killed Sam in the ring. Patterson always gave 100% win or lose. I believe this would be the deciding factor in the match with both Men scoring knockdowns. Therefore I would shade slightly towards Patterson in a close, hotly contested bout due to this. Patterson 8 to 7 over 15.

very evenly matched. i would go for charles. but patterson i think could out hustle him with the faster hands and maybe some awkward lead left hooks. somthigmn about charles is that as talented and solid as he is he seems to not be able to create a fight but more vamp of the other guys aggrsivness...now patterson can be either the bobbing snappy combinastion puncher or the pacing pantheresque left hooker.

perosnally i think charles could gonna put patterosn away by tko in th elate rrounds when floyd becomes a bit desperate....but lfody will give a very good account of himself and knock charles down early and the first few rounds with fast combinations. while ezzard adjust to counter.

lead right cross to the jaw of patterosn will have him on a knee and then the figth will turn around and be all charles

This would be extremely keenly contested.

I think Charles would get the close decision, though I like Patterson very much.

Hard to pick a clear winner in this one. Too bad the world never saw Patterson vs Marciano with respect to a universal opponent that both could have had.

I think Patterson's faster hands might get him the nod in a close decision over Charles. If Floyd doesn't get his jab in rhythm early to set the tone of this fight, Charles moves forward, hurts him to the body and piles up an early points lead on the scorecards.

Charles better boxing fundamentals and left jab carries him to a unanimous decision. pattersons hook would not be a factor based on the fact that the much harder punching marciano landed murderous hooks on charles in their 1st fight and couldn't knock him out.

If you consider the Patterson-Ellis match as a similar match up in styles, I would then have to go with Charles. Ellis also was a standup boxer with some good skills, but he didn't light up the world in this bout and looked a-bit sloppy. Patterson also wasn't a ball of fire in their match which I scored a draw.

Charles beats Patterson, he was a better Heavy, more durable and better skilled, Patterson may have had a faster double hook but Charles had a fast hook after the right and better mobility and a much better chin at heavyweight
