The one ive read is Charley Burley, the life and hard times of an uncrowned champion, it is my favourite book on boxing, i STRONGLY recommend it. The cream of the crop.

That's a cracking book. Teeto's pick is probably stronger on the era as whole and is a terrific read, but maybe this one is a little stronger on Burley himself.

This one is also easier to read.

    Anyone read this?

Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard had four major things in common - they won an Olympic Gold Medal, they were superlative boxers, they had a charismatic personality, and they were both trained and managed by the legendary, Angelo Dundee. Angelo Dundee became the mentor of two enormously successful egocentric personalities. Why did this Italian American for South Philadelphia, who fainted at the sight of his own blood, become the most famous cut-man, trainer and manager in the history of boxing? How did he keep his special relationship with Muhammad Ali alive when the fighter metamorphosed from Christian to Islamic? And what was his part in Sugar Ray's decision to risk his eye sight in order to continue fighting?"Axis of Greatness" throws the spotlight on three exceptional men who, through talent and dedication, led lives beyond the realm of the ordinary. They are the chosen few who possessed the indefinable qualities that inspire the rest of us - the stuff of heroes. The author has drawn on his personal relationships with the protagonists to create an extraordinary, fascinating book for boxing fans and lovers of heroes alike.

Your welcome Ishy, defo take my advice at some point, you won't regret it. Like McGrain implied, not the easiest of reading at the beginning, but once your past that initial part, it is absolutely impossible to put down.

You mean the one i read or the one ishy is after? What you said is very true of the one i read, 'the life and hard times', massive insight on the whole era,
