NOwhere. Fair isn't it? If you feel bad, keep in mind that my 3 favourite mw's are Greb, Burley and Williams. ONE fight between them. Dark times.
So the series could actually have been 5-2 in reality, with 1 of the losses being due to injury. I'm sure the General forum would have 100 page threads arguing about the decision
Maybe there's some avid collector somewhere who's only interested in middleweights. I'm looking out for anything Fred Apostoli or Freddie Steele too, to name but two.
It's quite sickening really. Three great fighters and only records, reports and accounts to go on. Oh yes, and one fight.
That's further than I'm willing to go, but i'm satisfied that Burley won cleaner from Williams than vice versa Don't doubt it. Best of luck to you. It lifts my paint.
I have highlights of their 2nd fight vs. each other. I've been meaning to upload it to Youtube, but kept putting it off. I'll have it up later today.
Actually, I decided to go ahead and do it now. Here it is on my channel: [yt]fE8KiGA4EEU[/yt] I'll be back later and start a separate thread on it with my own thoughts. For now, I'll just say that Apostoli is the shorter, bulkier fighter who generally forces the fight, while Steele is the quicker, leaner guy with a striped waistband (although that might be hard to see, given the quality of the vid).
Steele was getting the better of the action until late in the bout from what I saw. Then again he was badly injured by then, and in against a heavier fighter the whole way. Apostoli was going Homicide Hank on him toward the end, though.
I have to say Apostoli looked better to my eyes Pea. Great bodywork. And these guys look good at all ranges!
Early on though, when Steele was using movement and putting the combinations on him. Toward the end of the fight it's obvious he'd be unable to continue fighting so efficiently with a broken breastplate. I do think that kind of pressure fighter would've always given Steele trouble, though. He worked best against fellow boxer-punchers and brawlers, who he could pick apart with stinging single shots like his counter right hand and lead left hook before finsihing them off with one of his pin point combinations.
Yeah, broken breastplate or not (ouch by the way) this is how these style match ups tend to work, isn't it? Both look excellent.
