Also how does Burley knocking out Elmer Ray in sparring effect his legacy? Surely sparking a legit heavy (whom Joe Louis was rumoured to want nothing of - even in an exhibition) puts him up there with the greatest?
Burley has almsot no chance here. He tended to lose to the great, big men he faced. Tunney would be amongst greatest and amongst the very best. Too big, too good.
That's pushing it. Tunney's a bit of a stretch for Burley even if he had mixed success against movers.
A Chess match. The type of match Tunney excelled at. This would possibly be similar to the Gibbons/Tunney match where Tunney out thought and out fought another technician.
I'm surprised to see that some think Tunney stops Burley. Burley is much too sturdy, evasive and clever to be stopped by 175 lb Tunney. Lesser MWs than Burley went the distance with Gene.
Tunney by decision...but Burley does give him some trouble stylistically though. Very much a tactical fight. Wonder who would make the other lead?
