2 master craftsmen who never earned a title shot. At MW, could Burley outslick Benton and counter punch his way to a victory or would he have a hard time dealing with Benton's own defensive skills? :think
Burley was ultimately a higher class fighter than Benton, with no disrespect to Benton intended. While Benton was highly skilled, I never thought he was exceptionally fast or powerful from watching him. It's difficult to imagine Benton out-thinking and outboxing Burley, which is what he relied on to beat his opponents. He wasn't a particularly big middleweight either, so it's not probable that he could impose a size advantage on Burley who was adept at facing heavier men. Burley had all the skill while probably possessing greater talent for boxing than Benton. Benton would have to rely on the judges giving him a decision, because I cannot imagine him winning convincingly against an opponent of Burley's class. In a series of fights Burley would definitely prove Benton's superior.
benton was the better and more eye pleasing fighter, burly has the experience, athletic ability. im a hugeeee benton fan though.
